Not too many guys have hit the summer leagues yet. We've got some headed to the Northwoods League, a few to Cape Cod, and a couple to Team USA.

So far, the only people I could find that have seen any action in summer ball are Mitch Sewald and Hunter Devall. Both seem to be throwing well.

Mitch Sewald - Lakeshore (Northwoods)
3 appearances out of the pen, 8IP.
8 Ks and 1 ER. Has walked 5 though. 1.12 ERA.

Hunter Devall - Battle Creek (Northwoods)
2 Starts, 7.2 IP.
14 Ks, 2 BB. Only given up 2 unearned. 0.00 ERA.

For some players, the summer can be the difference of whether or not you continue on the LSU roster.

For Sewald, he's probably pitching for his future.
For Devall, with Bonvillain and Cotton leaving and the potential for Glenn to get drafted a good summer could really help him.
Newman was released for his summer team as well with Glenn back. He will be counted on as a potential starter next year as well.

Is the 27 man roster set through Omaha? What if Laird/McMullen/Sciambra continue to have issues?

Newman was needed last week with potential of having to play so many games in a short time period, after his outing against JSU I guess they feel like McCune and Bonvillain will be the extra starters in Omaha. You won't need extra pitching this weekend for Supers.

Maybe I am misinterpreting this statement. Are you saying Sewald is pitching for a roster spot on next year's team? That can't be right. Also I always thought fall practices and games were more important than summer ball. Summer ball ends pretty quickly and it comes right after the year. It would seem fall ball would be a better measure of future success.

Curious as to why you do not think Duval will be back.

MLB draft rules, not NCAA.

Don't get angry with MLB. They're doing all they can to help the college game keep their players for at least three years.

I wish MLB made everyone go to college for at least two years, then you can go and play professionally

Devall is the next Paul Bertuccini to me. Always will be unheralded, but post solid numbers every season. Bertuccini wasnt as undersized as Devall but was under 6 foot.

He's only throwing in the mid-high 80s this year, I doubt he goes near high enough to sign...unless he wants to leave really badly.

I'm not. I think they're only doing 1 or 2 rounds tonight. I'm going to track it and add my thoughts to someone elses thread though.

Glenn will be back. Dont worry. Nice numbers but not really gonna get drafted very high.
