LSU Baseball OOC Schedule Ideas

How would fans react to a OOC schedule that shaped up like this.
First weekend of the year play a Southland team. A decent baseball conference and they have practiced outside for more than a week before coming to the box.
Second weekend, we schedule an CUSA team, Houston, USM, UCF, etc. We would play them on a two year roatating basis home and away.
The third weekend feel free to schedule a cup cake to come down an get it handed to them. Like St. Johns or some other Big East Power! We can even invite their AD down so, he can watch that Big East quality at work!
The last weekend we could play a name BCS conference school. We don't have to play the number one school in the land but sombody with a pulse please. Like Baylor, or Kansas. We could play that on a home and away rotating basis like our CUSA series we would already have schedule.
We could schedule those second and fourth OOC weekends to be set where we would play one of them on the road a year and one at home! That way we only give up one home weekend a year.
Our OOC weekdays, we could play a three game set over the course of the year against a team like Rice. Play it Home, Away, and Neutral site. Then finish OOC out with our regular Louisiana rotation.
You would be giving up a total of about 6 or 7 games maxs at the Box throughout the year. I don't think that would totally break us and we would end up with more butts in the seats for those big name games we would play at the Boxs. Heres how it would look on paper:
Weekend OOC 12 games
Southeaster LA 3 games @Box
Houston or another CUSA team 3 Games @ Box or Away rotating
Michigan St. 3 games @Box
Texas A@M 3 games @Box or Away rotating
Weekday 14 games
Rice 3 games @Box, @Rice, @Wally Pontiff Classic
Tulane 2 games @Box, @Tulane
Mcnesse 1 game @Box
Northwestern St. 1 game @Box
ULM 1 game @ Box
ULL 2 games @ Box, @ ULL
Sam Houston St. 1 game @Box
Southern 1 game @Box
Last 2 OOC games fill with a northern school for a Tues., Wed. set at the Box!
So, thats a max of 7 games we would have to give up at Alex Box. I don't think we would do it but it would give us an idea of how good the team is before they start the SEC.
Thoughts?

Team loses too much money to travel that early, IMO

I wouldn't mind playing Rice @Box, @Rice, @WPC or any other major program.

Rice or USM, a team that is regional. If I was a coach I wouldn't want my team traveling to far during the week!

Nothing wrong with the schedule. We didn't get picked because of our conference record.

i dont get the bitching about the schedule? when has it ever been a problem before? the problem is going 13-17 and finishing in 9th place in the conference. lsu can play 3 cupcakes and 1 so so team in pre-conference and its rpi will be built up within the conference. its pretty sad that we are bitching about being team #65 in the tournament, instead of hosting like whats expected here.

Next year Air Force opens the season at LSU
They have another mini round robin tourney with Notre Dame and one other team involved
Non conference is not going to change, LSU is not leaving that money on the table.
LSU needs to do better in SEC play, plain and simple. Qualifying for SEC tourney should always happen at LSU. LSU barely made tourney last year and barely missed tourney this year. That is unacceptable and got Smoke fired.
I understand the reasoning of the committee, I did not have a problem with that. I did have a problem with the politics in that the Big 12 was taken care of and St. John's and their AD was taken care of.

According to Baseball America, when UALR won, we were knocked out from going to Corvallis.
Our conference record was the only reason, we weren't accepted. The committee pulled an obscure stat of not having enough road games to cover their arse.

Actually the word was that SF would have gone to Corvalis and LSU to UCLA.

It would be awesome to see the Horns and the Tigers early in the season. Three games, 2 at the disch 1 at the box and then opposite the following year... Two great teams! Sorry about you guys not getting in. Tourney is going to miss a little something this year, thats for damn sure. Good luck to you guys in Football..

At the end of the day, it is embarrassing to be debating LSU's merit relative to Dallas Baptist and St John's. With the resources we put towards baseball, why are we not in the discussion with UVA, Florida and UNC? That is the question Mainieri should be answering.

you've got way too much time on your hands.

My understanding from an interview I heard with CPM last year, Bertman told him he had to schedule a minimum of 33 to 34 home games per season. This year we had 37. When you have to have that many, it is hard to find teams that are willing to schedule you without a reciprocal agreement to play there. CSF was a good series to schedule, better than many OOC teams we have had lately but sweeping them didn't help us that much...neither did the lack of talent at our in-state competition (which we have to schedule games with too)

You mean ULL, right?

Well they weren't as good as they usually are, and I'm sure he meant more along the lines of Northwestern St. and UNO and Southern
