They can't bring them all because seat must be purchased by the Athletic Department for the Band. Those extra seats are not available now.

I asked the band department and they said as of now, it's just going to be the 100 piece pep band making the trip. The Athletic Department funds the trips and they take one trip with the full band a year. This year it was Oregon. The full band should be at this game. It makes a difference. Email the AD.

How the hell do you really think they can change the number of band members going NOW.

Seriously?

How the frick can they pull that off even if they really really really wanted to?

From a former band member's point of view...
The band has practiced a number of shows so far and could put together a half time show without much trouble, even if it included some repeats. The band members would go with no problem, because when you're in the marching band, you want to march in every game, not to mention the free ticket to go to the game. The biggest obstacle I would see is where to put them since it's a sellout. But it's not impossible. It's happened a couple of times in the past. Heck, they can even change the game time if they want to.

This is what I am referring to, what when the band would play.

And yes, it pretty much is.

There is no way they can now expand the band.

None.

Are they magically going to make 200 more seats appear to accomodate the visiting teams band?

As a former band member, I am sure you understand it is a money issue. To take those extra 200+ band members on the trip, put them all in hotels for 2 nights, feed them, and pay for several extra buses would cost easily $10,000...if not more. In a time of tight funding, on top of a time when they are trying to get a new band hall built, this is an expenditure that can be saved. I would love to see the full band there too...but it isn't gonna happen.

I notice at several B1G games and ND that frequently the bands are actually on the field seated at ground level. I would think that could be done and the bonus would be freeing up 110 tickets :)

Of course.

Everyone knows band members don't actually take up seats anyway.

They just hover over the stands.

Does Alabama have a sideline that can hold 200 people without being too close to the sideline? this isn't Superdome.

They are bringing 110 members, not 100. And no, there's nothing that can be done to increase the size of the travelling bands. It's planned out too far in advance, and there simply aren't seats available. The band doesn't have practice this week, and I doubt they'd want to change that because the Director already promised the band off 1 week after a crazy 2 weeks that they had during midterms week/tigerama/fall fest/florida game/etc...

Just let it be and accept it. The band will still be plenty loud.
