LSU-Arkansas-Alabama: 3-way tie discussion/breakdown
Posted on 11/20/11 at 11:32 am

If Arkansas beats LSU on Friday and Alabama beats Auburn on Saturday, LSU/Arkansas/Alabama would end up in a 3-way tie in the SEC West, all with identical 11-1 (7-1) records. LSU beat Alabama, Alabama beat Arkansas, and Arkansas beat LSU. The human voters will have to take a step back and review the entire resumes of the three tied teams.
Below is all the information one would need to break a 3-way tie between LSU (11-1), Arkansas (11-1), and Alabama (11-1).
3-WAY TIE SCENARIOS
*listed from most likely to least likely:
-If BCS rankings end up LSU-Bama-Arky...LSU goes to SECCG

-If BCS rankings end up Arky-Bama-LSU...Alabama goes to SECCG
-If BCS rankings end up LSU-Arky-Bama...Arkansas goes to SECCG

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
NCAA: Strength of Schedule Rankings
1. LSU - #5 nationally, opponents are 61-38 (.616 winning percentage)
2. Alabama - #21 nationally, opponents are 58-43 (.574 winning percentage)
3. Arkansas - #36 nationally, opponents are 55-46 (.545 winning percentage)
________________________________________________________
CONCLUSION
Based on these resumes, a reasonable person should come to the following conclusions:
1. LSU easily has the best overall resume, winning vs Oregon, @ West Virginia, and @ Alabama. LSU dominated 10 of the 12 teams it faced. LSU should be ranked the highest of the three teams.
2. Alabama throttled Arkansas, and played a slightly tougher schedule than the Hogs, winning @ Penn State and vs Arkansas. Alabama dominated 11 of the 12 teams it faced. Alabama should be ranked 2nd highest of the three teams.
3. Arkansas, by default, should be ranked 3rd highest of the three teams. Arkanasas dominated ONLY 6 of the 12 teams it faced.

I'm with both of yall....I don't see Arkansas coming into TS and beating LSU. LSU is just too strong this year IMO.
That said, everyone needs to be prepared, because there have certainly been bigger upsets than Arkansas beating LSU. If Arkansas beats LSU, they merely TIE LSU, so voters and fans need to be prepared to figure out how to break the tie based on 2011 results if it indeed comes to that.

It's just hypothetical and this will come up ad nauseum this week. This a good way to make a home to discuss.

LSU is going to blow out Arkansas. Arkansas's offense is one-dimensional and it will show on Friday.

There is already a predictions thread. This is to discuss the hypothetical 3-way tie, however unlikely possible.
"It is possible for LSU to lose, so it's worth discussing."

I never was a fan of three-ways! But if I had to participate it would be LSU(M) BAMA(F) ARK(F)

You need to update your "dominated" section.

You must be one of the ones starting shitty threads about lack of PT for Jarrett Lee

LSU would probably be 3 in both human polls, but as this thread points out, that would be somewhat baffling. Nonetheless, even if LSU is 3 in the human polls, LSU will likely be 2 in the BCS once the computers are factored in.

This. Threads like this shouldn't even be allowed.
PS- JP is gay. Literally.

Well, in my defense, I wasn't counting the South Carolina win as a "dominating win" for Arkansas.
But, I'll give Arky the benefit of the doubt and count that as a dominating win. If we're counting LSU and Bama's wins over State as dominating, then we should consider Arky's win over USC dominating.

I was just fricking with you. I thought it was funny that the Arky fan felt like one game was that much of a difference to the resume.
