LSU and the Dual-Threat Quarterback

We have two dual-threat quarterbacks and can't do shite on offense. Last year we had the best offense in LSU history. With a Pro-Style quarterback. Let's see, JJ dual-threat ended up being awful. Perriloux, we'll never know. Marcus Randall, awful. Guys, I'm not going to say that these guys aren't going to be productive quarterbacks. But you can't sit here and tell me that a dual-threat quarterback is the way to go. We just don't have a good history with them. Les' offense isn't set up to have that type of quarterback.
What's your take on the dual-threat quarterbac?

BINGEAUX, you win the kewpie Tigah!!!
Why on earth he recruits nothing but spread qbs and tries to ruin them into a pro-style pocket passer, I will never know...

Watching how the season has played out, anyone a little surprised Rettig didn't try to compete for another year?

We don't have dual-threat QBs...Les just wants a mobile QB who can extend plays, but still play from the pocket.

Probably for the same reason that he went out and hired an OL coach whose specialty is teaching zone blocking for spread offenses, even though we run a conservative pro-style offense.
Makes no sense whatsoever.

Dumbfounded that we recruit and get one of the top dual quarterbacks in that class, and we put him ubder center in the I form for 85% of the plays. It works with a qb like Mettenberger but if the coaches dont adapt to the players they themselves recruited it will be a long 3 years.

A dual threat quarterback implies you are a threat with both. An athletic QB that can't pass is not a dual threat. He is just an athlete playing QB. College duel threat QBs = RG3, Cam Newton, Tebow. Athletes playing QB = Jordan Jefferson, Jeff Driskel.

Flynn did both fairly well
Russell was actually pretty good under Miles and Fisher despite flaming out in the pros

Les has for the most part, ruined any recruiting of a pro style QB to LSU. He's ran off all of them ...except Zach Mettenberger.

In short, he doesn't trust the passing game unless he has a Flynn, Russell or Mett type player behind the center. So the rest of the time, he wants a duel threat guy that can run away and get that occasional big play with his feet, since, in Les's mind, it's not likely that passing is going to work much anyway.

you give him too much credit...

Only three things happen when you throw the ball, and two of them are bad, now that's his mentality...

AJ is an athlete playing QB, as he has not shown any proficiency in the passing game, other than to throw it in an arch down field and let our receiver run under it...on the other hand, once BH6, if & when he gets comfortable playing in this "pro" style offense, he will be quite remarkable...
Mett couldn't out run a one legged man, so why CLM ever recruited him, I will never know...

Bingo. The offense isn't set up for a dual threat guy. It's a traditional offense but he wants a mobile QB

Jesus. They're both young. Our great offense last year lost how many games? Dual threat is a must in today's game.

Its called a zero threat QB when you run the toss dive on 3rd and 7 with your lowest producing tailback...

LSU lost the QB game when Hayden Rettig transferred. He was much better than Jennings or Harris.
