Where: Maravich Assembly Center (13,215, 45th largest in D-I)
How:
***TV: None
***Radio: 98.1FM

LSU had a road trip from hell losing all three of their contest over the last week. Can they rebound from their incredibly disappointing week?

N Florida comes in as no slouch team. They have an incredibly potent offense. They shoot 46.4% (4th in NCAA) from beyond the arc as a team! That is amazing. They have 5 players shooting over 42% from deep. They score 44.7% (5th in NCAA) of their points from beyond the arc so guarding the perimeter is an absolute must.

While N Florida is stacked with shooters, it does cause some other problems. They have been one of the nations worst rebounding teams in the country. They have also struggled to get the the free throw line due to their jump shot tenancy.

On LSU's side, the offense has struggled mightily. After starting the year well offensively, they have yet to break 1 point per possession in each of their last three losses. Against Charleston, LSU only scored 0.77 points per possession, the worst in the Johnny Jones era. It was that bad.

At this point in time a major turnaround is needed to even sniff the NCAA Tournament. Luckily some help may be coming soon as Keith Hornsby is slated to begin practicing with the team Thursday. LSU could really use his shooting as the Tigers are not in the top 200 in the NCAA in 3 point shooting (32.6%), 2 point shooting (46.5%), or free throw shooting (64.0%).

Will LSU be able to turn around their offensive woes?

Will they be able to stop N Florida's high powered offense?

I'm not really sure. Personally I thought this would be a tough game for LSU when they were 3-0 and now I see it as an even tougher task. This team needs some serious leadership to get their heads back ready to play. If they come to play, they can beat the Ospreys without question, but that is still to be seen.

Prediction:
LSU PPP: 1.01
N Florida: 1.1
Possessions: 76

I love my team, I really do, but damn this team has zero heart right now.

I can understand losing to Marquette and NC State, but what I saw during the Charleston game really turned me off of this team.

Maybe we miss Hornsby more than we could have ever thought.

Jones said from the very beginning he'd be missed most for his leadership. He's on the bench, but it's gotta be tough pumping up the troops without being in battle.

What we miss is any semblance of good defense and rebounding.

For like 3 years now.

UNF is actually good. If LSU plays remotely similar to how they played the last few games then there's a 100% chance LSU loses. They haven't showed any heart at all and I guarantee UNF sees this as a game they could win on the road.

From what I've seen thus far, the guy who teaches blocking out techniques must be missing as well.

FWIW, they were on my flight last night from Houston to New Orleans. Based upon when I made it home, North Florida didn't get in until 1:15 - 1:30 a.m.

May not make a difference, but that is rather late for a team to be traveling prior to a game the next evening.

Currently LSU's defensive efficiency is top 50 while LSU's offensive efficiency is 142nd...

I know it doesn't look like it very often but we are statistically a relatively good defensive team.

The rebounding has been bad. I'd say the worst thing LSU has done has been on the offensive end though. They are shooting horribly these last 3 games.

You've got to think that LSU takes this one seriously and comes out with some heart. I think we win this one South. Don't be so down yet man...

He is the heart of this team. Simmons even said as much over the summer. The guy just gives 100% all the time and I think that missing his leadership on the court is what has been killing us. Right now they are all just deferring to Ben and I think he is frustrated. Blakeney is trying to be the guy but he is still young and is forcing it. I still think when we get Horns and Victor back that we can make a run, but they need to find a way to grind out some wins in the meantime.

I'm just trying to pull some of last years good luck (won first 3 games i predicted loss for).

In all honesty, LSU needs to prove something to me. I will be disappointed if they lose. Very. These three losses are going to make it very difficult to make the NCAA. Add a 4th and it makes the mountain climb even taller.

You would have thought that Charleston would have been a good matchup for LSU with the lack of a serious post presence. In the end it didn't matter. Charleston simply played much harder and just let LSU self-destruct. The sad thing is that wasn't the first time LSU has put up a half-assed effort against an inferior team. Jones recognizes the problems as noted in his press conference. It's time for him to actually do something about it rather that just give lip service.

Still, N.Fla. is probably not a horrible matchup for LSU. LSU struggles in the interior, both with defense and rebounding. The good news is that N.Fla. will be happy to take long shots. If LSU's defenders would stop trying to over-play everything to create steals and use their length to stay in front of guys, they may actually make some headway.

Right now this is a group of individuals playing on the same court with one another. The sum is not greater than the individual parts. Maybe Blakeney needs to sit to be humbled a bit. The time is looooong overdue for Jones to start holding guys accountable for selfish and stupid plays like Gray refusing to pass the ball when LSU has numbers in transition, or the several guys who are more than happy to jack up a three early in the shot clock when LSU doesn't have the numbers in their favor. Finally, someone has to learn how to move away from the ball. Hornsby is the best at doing so. Maybe one he returns the offense starts to flow a little better.

If Jones wants to prove EVERYONE in the national media who thinks he's a horrible coach wrong, now is his time to do it.

Could be a blowout the way N. Florida is shooting.

Prediction: 84 - 65 North Florida.

The heat turns up on JJ and the rant goes apeshit tonight.
