LSU #2 in First CFP - Proof the committee has no idea what they are doing

If there is any proof needed that the CFP is just as bad as the BCS, this is it. We finally put "great minds" behind choosing the top teams based on past performance, strength of schedule, etc. and they thought LSU was #2.
Based on my viewing of the first several games, the Rant's reactions to our dismal performances, and allowing rent-a-win teams to put up 20+ points THREE TIMES prior to the Alabama game made things pretty evident, we weren't a very good team.
It's pretty evident that the committee has no real knowledge in which to base their rankings off of. Iowa and Clemson sitting in the top 4 is a joke considering their schedules, but the same experts who thought LSU was the second best team in the country are putting these teams in based on an undefeated cupcake schedule.
What is the overall satisfaction/dissatisfaction level now that we are in year 2 of the CFP? I can't help but feel like it's nearly as unreliable as anything else we've had in the past to determine the best team in the land. Think there's a realistic possibility of an 8 team playoff in the next decade?

They know things will shake out the way they will shake out
They also put Alabama #4, knowing we played the next week and one of us would fall.
Their initial rankings are just showing people where everyone is at that moment.
I like the amount of movement that goes on with them.

i don't like the committee idea at all, but they got the same 4 teams in that would have been in the bcs..
all that matters is how you finish.. there's nothing wrong with ranking teams high early on.. you can't predict the future..
you can't just assume anything.. either way.. now that would be unfair..
other teams struggled in their wins as well.. you are being so stupid right now.. there are no GREAT teams in college football this year.. come on man.. so many of the tops teams were winning ugly all season.

LSU's resume put them at #1 or #2 at the time

They rank them for their position/accolades up to that point. They dont rank them as a prediction for the rest of the season.

No. There was nothing wrong with the BCS. The committee is horrible.

They rank teams based on prior work and a snapshot up until that point...not where they think they will finish.
This thread proves you're an idiot.

What the CFP gets right, is that they don't predict the outcome of the season, the way the AP voters tend to do. They select the most deserving team at the time, regardless of what lies ahead.
That's why Iowa is in the final four, despite everyone thinking that MSU will win the game and has a better "eyeball test".

Exactly..
There is no reason for a committee.. just bring back the BCS and take the top 4 teams.
I can't believe this guy is bringing up a ranking early in the season that is irrelevant. LSU deserved to be in the top four THIS season.. Just about every top tier program was winning extremely ugly.
This is what I can't stand about certain fans.. they don't see outside of LSU..

Let's make it unanimous shall we? Have another down vote.

Based on this logic the rant is nothing but dumbasses because they thought the bama should never have even been in the discussion. CFP Committee got that one right.

You've all claimed similar things in that the committee ranks teams based on what they've done. I think if any of those members had watched LSU through the first 7 games, they would have been very hesitant to put them at #2. Nearly losing to a walk-on QB at Syracuse, allowing EMU to put up over 20 points, and allowing WKU to do the same was pretty evident that we weren't a very good team.
I honestly think this would have been the year that UL-L finally scored another touchdown or two on us. Thank God, we didn't have them on the schedule this year.

The ranking is irrelevant, but at the end of the day, the committee put us at #2 without clearly ever watching the team play. Not everyone was winning ugly early on, when's the last time we allowed that many cupcakes to put up those kinds of numbers on our defense? Initial rankings or no initial rankings, the powers that be came up with a number based on information that went directly against their decision. Why is that any different at the end of the season?

We still had an OL then too.

This is dumb. Fournette has only had 1 relatively good game in the last 4 and he's only 30 yards behind the #1 rusher in the country. Do you know how amazing that is? Then throw in the fact that he's played 1 less game!
We were certainly #2 (if not better) after 7 games.
That being said.. I'm sure the committee is extremely happy that Arkansas converted that 3rd and 25 to go into OT and eventually beat Ole-Miss.. If Ole Miss wins that game they play for the SEC championship. If they beat Florida in a rematch, then what? Would they put a 1 loss non-WEST/SEC champ Bama in the playoffs over a 2 loss Ole Miss? Do they snub the SEC altogether. Who knows.
That was a "doomsday scenario." I swear, Bama's luck has to run out one day.

Should be 6 teams, no committee, Power 5 conference champs, and 1 at large.
