First, LSU is a better team. Probably by 13 points.

The B1G is getting better. Iowa really isn't representative about this right now. It was a very shaky 8-4 this year.

The lack of offensive production by Iowa didn't surprise me. I expected a little bit better, but still, not a huge surprise. I think we started the wrong QB. Not for the same reasons many Iowa think, but because our starter wasn't 100%.

I don't understand why we didn't use our TE's on your LB's more. I don't understand why we used a FB in a zone read type running scheme.

Iowa's DL is not over rated, LSU's OL is clearly very good, and the backs are very, very good.

LSU's QB should have thrown to the WR's more. Not in the first half where weather was more of an issue, but in the second half. He did try. He will need some work. I understand he is a freshman, and this was good game experience for him.

Iowa was 8-4. We are one year away from being an above average 8-4, and two year's away from even better. We had some attrition, and a training issue that put some kids in the hospital. This has resulted in about 3 very difficult years.

I didn't boo the one "injured" player. In my estimation, he needs to be talked to by your coaching staff. I've always felt LSU's program is better than Florida, and he clearly doesn't represent this.

The LSU fans I sat next to were decent. They asked me about the booing. I explained to them about what Michigan State does, and also pointed out the one "injury" was suspect. We disagreed on one non call the entire game. A pass interference.

LSU left 14 points on the field, Iowa left 10.

When it mattered, LSU's OL and backs did what winners do. They won.

From an Iowa fan's perspective, this was a difficult game to watch. Another difficult season actually. From what I understand about LSU football, I'd speculate there is cause for concern here as well.

Yes I started a new thread about this, after a couple of days to digest it all. No I don't want an argument about low class fans, academic standards etc. I don't participate in these types of discussions. As it regards LSU and Iowa, this is a small minority of fans. Other SEC schools where I've attended games? Not so much. A couple of B1G schools as well.

What exactly is the cause for concern?

agreed, much like i dont understand why we abandoned the short passing game that had success in first half

Good objective analysis. I really thought our overall team speed and dominance at the LOS was most notable difference in the game.

I respect the way Iowa played with a lot of pride and tremendous effort for a full 60 minutes. Will be pulling for y'all in the Big 10 in 2014. We can help by kicking some Badger Butt in game 1 of the season.

Thanks for the post, Golfer.

One thing I wish is that our QB could have played because the type of team we saw on Jan. 1 was not the type we've been all year, with downfield passing and reliance on two excellent WR's. However, it did give LSU fans a chance to see the possible future at QB, and, well, we saw a true freshman. He will get better. We did get to see what was probably LSU's second best defensive performance of the year (only to the A&M game in which the Tigers throttled Johnny Football).

As for Iowa, they look like a solid team that needs playmakers on offense. Fortunately, it is always possible to go out and get one or two of those. Just need to get a little lucky in recruiting.

All in all, I doubt either team's fan base will talk much about the 2014 Outback Bowl as the years pass.

If Mettenberger were healthy, LSU would have DESTROYED Iowa. LSU was limited with a freshman making his first start at QB & went to its bread & butter time consuming run game to shorten the game & frustrate/ wear down the Iowa D. Iowa's 2 scoring drives accounted for about 6-7 yards & was never seriously challenging LSU's D which held the Iowa O to 230-ish yards, about 15-20 more than Jeremy Hill had on his own.
As you understand LSU football....you don't. You latch on to a couple of nega tigers who live with the "sky is falling" syndrome. The future at LSU is very bright with some great talent pouring in on offense, an OC who can develop said talent & gameplan accordingly, & a defense that made leaps & bounds in improving, LSU will be fine. Even on a day without our best QB, missing our best D lineman, & playing with a young secondary they still made a good B1G team look silly.

I agree. Not much to get excited about by either fan base. I think I'm objective, and if I was an LSU fan, I'd have some concern about what I witnessed.

Both teams looked sloppy, which isn't uncommon after a layoff. I'm not sure your QB situation is a decided issue. Again, I realize he was a freshman, but there were some mechanics that were surprisingly raw. No one really knows on a wet cool day, with all sorts of freshman pressure on him, and this is the first time I've seen him play.

Why is there an Iowa fan on the LSU training staff? If you are not on the staff how can you say whether a player was injured or not. Could have been cramps or any number of things.

It is low class to boo any player down at any time by any fanbase.

Guy makes a good thread and you come in here spewing bullshite. We lost to Ole Miss and nearly Arkansas with Mett. You don't know how the game would have been any different.

Golfer, ignore him.

He's right. Those other games were different. We had receivers open all night, and if you watched, you saw what the running game was doing. Would have been ugly.

Barrow was clearly bent backwards and Iowa fans were still booing 5 minutes later when he finally got up and walked off the field. From my experience, all of the good people in Iowa go to Iowa State.

Any LSU fan denying that Johnson faked an injury is embarrassing. It happened, deal with it.
