Oh ok. I realize ticket sales are only a portion of football revenue. Are you saying that the majority of income has already been committed to the program for this year? Just asking because I don't know.

The stadium can only have 30,000 fans show up but the tickets are already purchased. Now next season, if the ticket sales and suite purchases drop, then we might get somewhere.

They talked about and showed the empty seats quite a bit during the broadcast Saturday night. If the stadium is noticeably empty @ kickoff for an upcoming game and under 20k for the second halfs, it'll continue to get talked about of the broadcast and look worse and worse from a PR and Brand perspective.

The board and chancellor would have to notice then. (I'd say AD too, but I have zero confidence in him choosing another coach)

For a state with a population of 4 million, LSU became to big for itself. That's why they're suffering the most with budget cuts and why you're seeing a decrease in faculty there.

Mississippi has two major schools. Alabama the same... that spreads it out and prevents any school from getting too large relative to size of population.

What if we did something like that somewhere like False River or Toledo Bend? We would bring in loads of revenue. But instead, we settle for houses on pilings and camps. Because......that's how we do things around here.

It's simple. We don't like outsiders. Doing stuff like that would bring in outsiders. It would also raise property values... to the level that locals could not afford the taxes.

Houston area has old money and power... but it's a much smaller percentage of the population. In Louisiana... progress is seen as a bad thing.

If ticket money dries up next season... that might send a message... but...

The SEC revenue sharing on championships/bowls and SEC Network has become the big money maker. And that money doesn't care much if you are 12-0 or 2-10.

If there's one thing I will always give Saban credit for, it's the fact that he knows how to tell the beuracracy to p-ss off. Even at Alabama, they leave the man alone and let him coach.

It wasn't just Saban. The AD at the time, Skip Bertman, was immune from political obstruction since he was more popular than any politician in this state could ever be with his 5 World Series Titles.

there's some truth to your post but this falls squarely at Alleva's feet. He could have conducted a real search last year but settled on a coach that wasn't going to go anywhere when Herman tried to play him for more money at Texas. He reacted like an emotional twit not a level headed higher up CEO.

Well, LSU has been the only school that's been sold in the state. That's why there's a misconception within the UL(L) fanbase that all of the shortcomings have been at the hands of LSU, which is not quite the case. Yes, LSU has definitely been a benefactor. But the state has allowed for it since the days of Huey Long. My blame is on the state. The state has allowed this and has caused itself to be a one-horse state for universities which has also affected LSU negatively to this day with all of the cuts the school has had to make. But that is why we have suffered with higher ed. There's no competition, which doesn't allow to bring about any progress. As another poster said, we look at progress as a bad thing.

Politics created this coaching blunder, so yes it does.

The problem is we have way too many colleges in the state. The push to close a school with a sub 10% graduation rate in SUNO was defeated. The state is overly supplied with 4 year colleges that need to be merged. LSU should probably receive a greater portion of the funding than now being it is the flagship school. Schools like ULM, Grambling, and Tech serve a small population area yet divide resources. Same thing for LSUS, LSUA, Northwestern, Nichols, UNO, etc. We have to merge and close some of these facilities and probably have a constitutional convention to look at how wasteful the state budget is. There is not a funding/revenue problem there is a spending problem. Unfortunately I have zero confidence in John Bel Edwards to do the right thing and improve the situation.
