"I was shocked. My mind was numb,'' she said. "I worked so hard for this, and it disappeared in less than a second.''

"All I could think of was just getting back on my two feet and standing strong.''

Jones did that as she passed through the media interview area, talking for several minutes with a large group of reporters, graciously stopping again to speak with a few others who could not get close enough to hear her.

Her eyes were moist, but she made no excuses, had no complaints, simply explained her misfortune by getting to the essence of the event.

"It's the hurdles,'' she repeated. "If you can't get over all 10, you can't be the champion.''

I disagree.

A champion is the class of the field.

No one in these Olympics has shown any more class than Lolo Jones.

That pretty much says it all. My heart went out to her last night, but I was so PROUD of the way she handled it.

A career in front of the camera, maybe?

Absolutely...she has that "it" factor. Can't help but like her. Get rid of that lame Caroll Lewis and put Lolo in the track and field booth.

i always hate the "agony of defeat". To be in control and hit a hurdle.....I hope she gets past it and it doesn't become a defining moment in her life...She's too good.

meh...a champion is the person who wins the gold medal or championship

it sounds good and all, but not realistic

I didn't realize that she is 26 years old. Would be amazing if she made it another 4 years to compete again. Her response was a lot better than the other american who came in 2nd to last. She claimed that her leg cramped up, but when they replayed the race, there was no sign of a cramp. Don't make excuses, just take your medicine, like Lolo, and move on.

As for Lolo, a "Class act she was".

We'll see if you remember who won or Lolo next year. I doubt you could name the "champion" without looking it up.

Thanks for representing, Lolo.

What I thought was classless was the media after the interviews. Lolo gave all the interviews and held her emotions in check, even hugging the medal winners and congratulating them.

THEN, she goes to the ramp below the stadium to release her disappointment, and there's NBC with a camera. Why couldn't they just leaver her alone? I just thought that sucked.

That was hard to watch. I felt even worse for her.

= unrealistic

you are not a champion if you don't win

you can be nice, honorable and a model citizen, but you are not a champion

this isn't the playground where we stop playing dodgeball b/c we don't want to hurt anyones feelings. this isn't little league where we play everyone b/c we have to....this is the olympics

these are the best athletes in their respective sports competing for the title of "best in the world", the only way to be a champion is to win.....hell, even Lolo Jones agrees with me

She said herself, to be a champion you have towin the race. So, I have no class for agreeing with the same thing that Jones said herself?

BUT somehow that makes you and some soft reporter who doesnt let his son play football on asphalt without knee pads classier than me????? PLEASE!

what? i don't even understand the question

what difference does that make? i admit....i do not know who won the gold in athens, but i do know she (lolo) won the indoor and outdoor this year

olympic gold > indoor and outdoor combined....don't believe me, ask Lolo if she would trade her indoor and outdoor championships for Olympic gold, we both know she would
