Please explain for a dumb bayou idiot who doesn't research college football

Typical responses around the board are

"We should hire Lane!"

"He is a POS, no thanks"

can someone break it down

He's a pompous little fella. Only problem I've observed.

Not necessarily what makes him a POS but he doesnt have a good head coaching record. Had success with USC under Carroll, shite the bed with every next stop, got to Bama and has had a solid offense but nothing special.

He thinks he's the best thing ever. Huge ego.

Great OC, terrible head coach. Got canned at USC (at the airport if memory serves) and is partly responsible for the mess Tennessee is still trying to get out of.

Oh and the bitching about Urban Meyer at Tenn didn't do him any favors.

USC ALSO had a very mediocre defense under him

It's why HERMAN is such an attractive hire. Houston plays balls to the wall on both sides

You want a coach who is proven and has had success as a head coach, right?

Kiffin has had three head coaching jobs and has been fired from two of them, and burned every bridge imaginable and left on bad terms with Tennessee. Didn't exactly leave them in the best situation, either.

Kiffin would be a disaster at LSU, IMO.

He once told Alshon Jeffery if he went to South Carolina he would end up pumping gas.

Jeffery went on to South Carolina then the NFL to become one of the better receivers in the NFL today

He's been really arrogant and a douche and he is not a good Head Football Coach.

Some guys are better as coordinators.

He committed recruiting violations at Tennessee and assembled a team of felons that were poached through highly shady means. Mostly he had guys lie to coaches about their status for months and built immense bad will among SEC coaches.

His big prizes were a murderer, a guy who had already raped an underage girl with a plunger, and several guys who committed an armed robbery several weeks into their Tennessee careers.

He ran his mouth non-stop and put a huge target on his back both for rival coaches and the NCAA.

His biggest strength was hiring good assistants.

He (and orgeron) did some shady stuff with recruiting in Tenn. They got Janzen Jackson to screw us over. Then when they were bailing to USC there were rumors (unsure of legitimacy) about them telling all Tenn recruits to not commit and commit to USC I believe. While neither is against the rules they are not ethical.

All the shady ways he handled recruiting while @ Tennessee. Telling kids to hold commitments until the last second and then flipping. Not that it wasn't a blessing in deguise, but he pulled that shite with Hansen Jackson. That pretty much did it for me.

I don't care if a coach is nice or not, but that's really overboard.. and I wouldn't want someone that immature as HC. . To tell a recruit he would be trash at another program.. or nothing would amount of him there.

Kiffin has had time to mature. I agree he was in over his head during his HC stints. Also every successful HC has a big ego. He will become a successful HC in the future. LSU is not the place for him at least not in the immediate future. If LSU does decide to go in another direction there are a number of proven HCs who would give their left nut to come to Baton Rouge. If I'm not mistaken this is still week one. I'll say this. If Saban decided to retire at the end of this season, Kiffin would not be in my top 3

Honestly, his personality aside...the guy just doesn't have the greatest track record as a head football coach.

He's a great offensive mind, and he is one of the few true "QB whisperers" in football. But,his overall record is 35-21 and he is only 21-16 in conference play.

For him to have that sort of average success at two of college football's most storied programs in not enticing in the least bit.

He was in a no win situation at SC with sanctions and TN was already a dumpster fire when he got there. Most people forget he was a Mt Cody blocked FG away from beating Bama. But I can't deny the arrogant prick stuff.
