Watching the game last night, LSU came out aggressive and played stellar on defense. I noted early on that we kept sending the LBs with pressure and not typically dropping them back into coverage.

I assumed that approach would be adjusted at some point as the middle of the field was consistently and obviously open in the first half.

In the second half Dak came out throwing over the middle with short dump offs etc and then continued to do so throughout the rest of the game.

The problem I noticed was there was really no adjustment on defense. It was like we went in there with one approach and basically stuck to it.

But for the blatant (yet uncalled) holding last night, Dak would have been sacked 15 times last night.

D-line looked gassed in second half and that was the difference in the way they played, they were in Daks grill the whole first half just about and soon as that changed momentum in the game changed. I think their goal was to stuff the run and make Dak beat them with his arm which was working until they were winded.

Meh, Dak is the best QB we will see all year.

You're probably right about that.

The defense does not appear to be an issue for this team.

I will say it was great to see us play more aggressive and get a good pass rush for a change.

MSU's left tackle sucked shite and should have been called for holding about 3 or 4 more times than he did.

The defense got gassed when MSU adjusted and shut LSU's vanilla offense down and MSU's offense adjusted and went up tempo. But you are correct on the seemingly lack of adjustments. What would you expect? Since when has a Miles' gameplan been adjusted during a game whether it was working or not?

The defense was tired when you run, run, run, and put a defense with little depth on the field, they will get tired

Miles historically gives the defensive coordinators a little more freedom. His mark on the offense is very obvious, but the defense is usually the DC.

Agreed. Even the announcers thought holding was the call when they flagged Godcheaux for illegal hands to the face.

On the bright side, it looks like all the hype about Key is warranted. Key and Tolliver looked like seniors out there in their first college action. That bodes well for the defense.

On TV, it looked like LSU went to zone and secondary became timid and looked almost confused when Dak pressed the tempo. Something that needs to get fixed this week as there are studs in that secondary who will eat all the lesser QBs alive this season! Dak is is a senior and on the Heisman list for a reason and we won't see the likes of him again this season.

When we started struggling to get pressure on Dak with 4 or 5, he stated having success. His big passes came down to one thing. As good as Tre White is, he was having a hell of a time 1 on 1 with Wilson. Dak threw several his way on those last two drives.

Another thing we may not be taking into account is playing QB contain against a guy who, while he didn't do much on the ground last night, we all know can run. In playing zone, you have more guys facing the line of scrimmage. I think they were worried he would rip off a big run if we went straight man and the secondary all turned their backs to the line.

When the hell are you people going to stop blaming officiating. That is minor compared to the conservative play calling. What about the dumb penalties committed by LSU players that hurt the team. Don't give me this chit not playing last week, this is the first game. You stand over a player and taunt it's 15 yards. Blocking at the knees as was done on Brandon's run, when you can't see the number on the back, of the jersey you leave them alone, that is chit you learn in pop warner league. Typical undisaplined team under les Miles.

What was most impressive to me was the last play before the field goal attempt. He put pressure there. Chavis wouldn't have and then they would have been left with a much more manageable winner. I liked it. I agree with the others about the team being a bit gassed. We will need to find more depth to rotate in to keep guys fresh.

The main thing I liked is that Steele brought pressure MSUs last drive instead of rush 3 and drop back on prevent and let the other team march down the field throwing underneath and short sideline routes that lead to a TD or short chip shot FG
