re: Let's be realistic about Les's coaching abilities

At his current pace, he will be the winningest coach in school history, with at least 1 national title, at least two appearances. Never had a losing season here. His "disasters" are 8 win seasons.
His resume, as it stands now, is borderline HOF, limited mostly by overall duration when you compare him to some national all-time greats. He has done more than a number of guys who have stadiums named after them.
He has done the bulk of this in a timeframe when the SEC was winning an unprecedented 7 straight national titles, meaning he wasn't padding anything with a weak conference schedule. He has produced the most players in the NFL, but if you go by recruiting standards, he does not have the most talented team in the conference, or for that matter, in the division. That distinction belongs to Alabama, who is generally considered the best program in all of America. Despite this, he was able to manage an SEC title and undefeated regular season, in the midst of Alabama's run. Compared to his predecessor Saban, Miles has won the same amount of national titles AT LSU, and has at least 4 other seasons better than Saban's second-best.
That is not opinion, nor does it mean he isn't winding down in his career. Simply, it means he has been an extremely good coach, great by LSU standards. Don't revise history just to shite on the man you don't like.

When, other than 2006, has a Les Miles team been better at the end of the season than at the beginning? Think about it.

I don't think the amount of players in the NFL can be attributed to Miles's development as much as the fact that they're already superb athletes. LSU may not have a recruiting ranking as high as Alabama's, but he still brings in 4 and 5 star players that everyone already knows have NFL potential. You'd have to be a terrible coach for them not to succeed.

He's already in the Hall of Fame. But his own fan base is constantly criticizing him. Weve heard all the names over the years that would've done better at LSU. Just to see them all either quit, fired or crater the program when a top coordinator or the star QB left.

Cameron runs off all QBs leaving miles Jennings and a puppy named Harris and still manages an 8-5 yr. one of the absolute finest coaching jobs ever. Even had Bama beat with these 2 QB s and a 1 dimensional offense.
First, Cameron did not "run off all QBs."
Second, I don't believe LSU's season last year was an example of "absolute finest coaching jobs ever." See Urban Meyer last year and what he did with an inexperienced freshman and a career backup as QBs for a proper example of one of the "absolute finest coaching jobs ever."
Third, LSU did not beat Alabama. Unless you are counting moral victories. If LSU kept the game close it was because of Chavis' defense which played extremely well and even gave LSU the ball inside the 10 with less than 2 minutes to play in the game. Predictably, LSU's offense could not put the ball in the end zone to finish the game.

They are currently 6-6. If they win a bowl game they will be 7-6. That is very close to the 8-5 season of LSU that you mentioned above as "one of the absolute finest coaching jobs ever." Most people consider Auburn's season to be a colossal disappointment with poor coaching.

This is not what the Les lovers want to hear.

How are u going to cover up 2-6 in conference? And they haven't won that independence bowl game against Mary of the poor just yet. It certainly will not be against the likes of Notre Dame. Just stop or come up with another silly word like fantasy. whis your pick to replace Miles?

I'm not doing that. Read my post above.

And I'm not even trying to bash him. I think he's a good coach and he runs a strong program. I think he's one of the top 25 coaches in college football. I just think teams get better as the season goes on under GREAT coaching, no matter how good or bad the athletes are.

Let me ask you something, and I want you to be very honest. Did you think LSU would be able to get back to No. 1 after 2008? 2009? Did you think LSU would get up to No. 2 in 2015?
Posted on 12/1/15 at 5:43 pm to LSUANDY25
No, they didn't. They played better and better each week until the Ole Miss game. Then it was hit or miss the rest of the season. There was no steady incline in our level of play.
We have a different definition of the word great, so putting that aside, and not even mentioning names like Saban and Meyer--those are obvious, I'll tell you that I think Bob Stoops, Brett Bielema, and Gus Malzahn are better coaches than Les Miles. Why? Because their teams are constantly improving. Auburn and Arkansas looked atrocious at the beginning of the year and starting around the midway point of the season they began improving week to week.
