Les's opening statement (long)

I want to believe in Les Miles, although regretfully I don't anymore and think now is the time to rip the band-aid off. That being said, if he got up to the podium and gave us these words, I admit it, it just might make me believe one more time. Will it happen? Hell no. Not in a thousand years. But I had fun thinking about it during my 30 minute commute so I thought I'd share. Enjoy:
"Before I talk about the game I feel it's my duty to say a few things.
I am certainly aware of the unrest about my position as the head coach of this football team. I know that things have been said and reported and I don't think there's a better time to go ahead and address this. The back-end of the year heading into tonight has been difficult on our football team, our coaches, and certainly myself.
I have spoken with Joe Alleva--and you'll hear this from him tomorrow--but he's given me permission to go ahead and say my piece...I'm the head coach at LSU and I'm privileged and humbled to still be the head coach at LSU.
There's been some renegotiation, some pulling back on a few items which I can appreciate because I recognize where we stand as a football team on a national level versus where we were a number of years ago. We're moving in the wrong direction and as the head coach I take responsibility for that.
I'm a prideful man and I've always done things a certain way--thankfully most of the time it has worked--but I recognize that with the amount of quality competition that continues to improve in this league, 'most of the time' doesn't get you where you want to be.
There's a sincere want to change our approach in a few areas. We recognize the need to improve and play better football in the final month of the year and certainly offense is an area where we have struggled. I have always had a specific structure in mind as far as our offense and whether or not you want to call it 'stubborn,' I absolutely can see that I have been difficult to budge there. I think allowing my offensive coordinator to work independently is what this team needs, and I can assure you stepping completely aside and letting him go to work is in my best interest.
Cam Cameron will not return next year, or for the bowl game. He's a great coach and we wish him the best, but we believe our offensive personnel deserve a scheme that is going to play more to their strengths and be more of a mismatch for our opponent. I've spoken with Tom Herman, who has done a fantastic job at Houston, and we're excited to have him come in and take over the offense. Again, my terms as far as how long I can coach here have certainly changed and I suspect there will be a condition in Tom's contract that hopefully will allow him to coach in a bigger role long after me.
On the defensive side there will be some shuffling around, but there will be little change as far as personnel. Ed Orgeron will be the defensive coordinator and remain the defensive line coach. We think that he's paid his dues and deserves a look there. We're also happy to welcome Kevin Steele back as linebackers coach. I think he has a want to not be spread so thin, so this will allow him to work exclusively with the linebackers and coach them up, and he couldn't be more excited about that. Only thing different--we will not be retaining Bradley Dale Peveto--I expect he'll elaborate more on that with an official announcement but I think I can speak for him when I say he's in a peaceful place and wants nothing more than to be with his family and enjoy more recreation.
We will be putting out searches for special teams and offensive line coaches, and while we will have an opening for a strength coach, in speaking with Scott Cochran earlier this week I can promise you we'll be okay there.
Great win, great night for LSU. You can call it a rude awakening if you'd like, but this is how we are going to choose to respond as I absolutely recognize that we are LSU, LSU competes for championships, and bold changes must be made if we are going to do so again. Forget about what I've done to this point, a hundred or so wins mean very little to me at this point and it shouldn't to you either. We have a bowl game to win, and then a lot of work to do...better, different work, before Wisconsin on September 3rd.

I love Les but that would take him two hours to say.

I was bored--really only took about 15-20 minutes.

Thanks. I admit I got carried away but I think it was my way of venting 4 years of frustration. It's healthy.

I feel so dirty now, the emotions, the shock, and now the embarrassment. But well done, nonetheless.
