This belief that Les is scared to open it up is false. We tried and failed when the WR kept killing drives when we all discovered they forgot how to catch the ball.
Then the line couldn't block... no time to throw. It isn't him scared unless it was scared that Mett would die.
More like trying to win instead of being scared. Then we have a full back and some of the rb's that can't pick up the blitz and a qb who couldn't see it coming.
It isn't that Miles is scared it is that the team couldn't do it.
I might be able to buy this for one year. But we have seen the same old shi--y offense for the last 5 years, the same moronic clock screw ups ever since Miles has been here, total lack of player discipline since the Sabin players left, rampant player drug use, too many issues to even list.

It's not the number of passes, it's the WHEN and the WHERE.

Of course he is scarred from Lee. Dude has nightmares about it every night. Origin of it doesnt matter just that he will not change from this mentality.

ISWYDT OP.
OP trying to brainwash you all into thinking that all of our offensive problems were JL's fault.. when in fact, Miles just has JJ-itis. JJ is the root of everything that gone wrong with LSU's football program since 2008. Everything. This season? JJ.
Not even being sarcastic.
ETA: Alternate theory, and probable truth, is that JJ blackmailed Les and now Les is scared to trust a Qb.

Unfortunately he will have to get over that at some point because this conservative run down your throat offense doesn't always work.

I would even argue that the JJ9 love wasn't really love at all. I think Les was less in love with Jefferson and it was more that he was terrified of Lee. The first game in Alabama probably brought up those memories of '08 and he never developed trust and confidence in Lee.

Or maybe these players on the 05,06 and 07 teamed were actually coached by someone that knew offense.
Lets see what offensive coaches were here in 05, 06 and 07?
What are the current offensive coaches?
We were pretty bad on offense now for 5 straight years. I don't really care why. It still boils down to Les Miles. Why, because he is in charge.
He is the only one that can fix it. Would you be getting raises on your job if it took you 5 years to fix a part of your business that performed in the bottom half of the industry.
On the other hand Les deserves credit for great Special Teams and Defense. WE JUST WANT an offensive coach.

The offense was fine under Lee in 2011.
Dominated everyone we played with Lee at the helm with the exception of Bamma. Ranked mid of the pack. There are many of different reasons for this but we had a balanced, dependable offense. What happened once JJ took over?? Struggled against everyone left on the schedule with exception of ole miss.
We had the same shite but on the other side of the ball in 2008. The only difference then was his seat got hot during 08 and instead of that this year, we give him a fricking raise.

Les says run the ball, Stud says yes.
Unless it's the end of the game and we need a first w/2 yards to go on 2nd and 3rd down.
He has a fear alright...Fear of facing the reality that his situational football IQ is poop.

Agreed. Our struggles on O transcend OC's, QB's, OL, injuries, etc.
Regarding the OP "scared" is probably not the most fitting word. Les should have learned from 08's mistakes (of which there were two glaring ones - turnovers and Malleveto).
But after '12 I think we have come full circle. We're losing games, missing out on championships, and making things much harder than they need to be because we're TOO conservative on O.
At some point (now would work) Les needs to realize this and makes changes.

Hanagriff(sp?) has been saying this for 2 years on post-game shows and his daily show with Jimmy and DP.

I've believed that was the case ever since that first Alabama game with Lee. I'm still convinced it's the case. He knew his career almost derailed because of that freshman and he wasn't going to be trusting anyone again.

Why do I keep imagining Les on the sidelines, visualizing Saban with a baby head while making baby noises. Then calling a halfback pass that gets thrown back to the QB for a touchdown. Followed by someone yelling "You got your manhood back, Coach Miles! You got your manhood!"

I'm confused, is this something new?
I haven't read the rest of the thread, so maybe it's been covered.

Mr. Mattwell90, what you've just said is one of the most sane, non-idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your lucid, coherent response were you close to anything that could be considered an irrational thought. Everyone in this thread is now smarter for having listened to it. I award you all points, and may God have mercy on our souls.

Les passed A LOT more this season(what everyone begged for last season) and was successful at times. I see Mett improoving greatly with more experience and lower expectations
Yeah. Two times too many in fact.

What? I thought what was in the OP was clearly understood by most people, that Miles has plays afraid, by playing not to lose, rather than to win.
The problem with his "fear" is that it rubbed off on his offense.
For example, Even with Lee's mistakes we had the 55th ranked offense. 2008 was all on the defense. After Lee was hurt, the D lost a 16 point lead in the 3rd qtr vs Arky in our 5th loss. Yet, when Les' arse was on the line in 2010, he put Lee out their to save 3 games. Yet in the Tenn game he trots JJ out there at the end, and almost blew it.
In 2011 Lee was the giant killer. Crushing 5 ranked teams in 8 games. But Les couldnt wait to push JJ in, after being back just 1 day. Couldnt wait to get him in the Bama game on the 5th play; when Lee was 2/2 for 19 yards and zero ints.
So its no surprise that Lee developed no confidence. A scared coach, coached him to be scared. Always looking over his shoulder. Miles' fear caused him to reward one QB for poor play, and punish another for good play. He's done that with RBs also.
Thats the main reason he needs to back away and let a new OC in. His fears are now the team's fears.
