It's not that people are speculating Kevin Steele will be horrific based on no evidence. He does OK as a position coach (Bama's LBers were the weakest this year than they've ever been under NS). However, he hasn't proven he can succeed as a DC. Peter Principle and what not.

There's a reason Bama demoted him from DC after 07 and promoted Kirby Smart.

There's a reason Dabo Swinney told him to GTFO with a quickness.

There's a reason his defenses finished dead last of all BCS automatic conference schools every single year at Baylor.

There's a reason fans are concerned about his nervous breakdowns on gamedays that Clemson fans have so well documented for us.

There's a reason Kevin Greene assaulted and embarrassed him on national tv.

There's a reason nobody has hired this guy to be a DC since the Clemson WVU (Oooh WVU JUST SCORED AGAIN) debacle.

Now, is there a reason Les hired him to be LSU DC?

1. Did everyone turn us down? If so, why is that? If so, why not just give Ed O an opportunity or Karl Dunbar or some other unknown? AN unknown is better than a proven failure, right?

2. Les knows the fans didn't want this and wants to prove he is right and they are wrong. Do it his way.

3. Les truly believes Kevin Steele can be a successful DC despite 35 years of history telling us otherwise.

I just can't wrap my head around it. I hope he does well and I hope Les is right and 35 years of history and all the fans and talking heads are wrong. I just don't see it though.

this sentence kinda makes me laugh

if you coach for 35 years, you are successful

you don't coach for 35 years being the buffoon that y'all are trying to make this guy appear to be

No doubt. I'm not saying Steele is a failure as a coach. I"m saying he is a great position coach and adds value.

However, anything above position coach he has proven incompetence. Peter principle...

If you're a great salesman and get promoted to management and struggle, that doesn't mean you're not a great salesman still. It just means management is your point of incompetence. You can't go higher than sales.

If the reason is that Miles wants more control and wants a yes man or if Miles wants to prove fans wrong, then the only question left is whether LSU has the balls and money to fire him after next year, or do we pull a UT and let him completely frick the program before pulling the plug?

People keep trying to play up the narrative that he's been on staff with legendary coaches. [Bowden,Osborne & Saban]. He was national recruiter of the year back in '05. Which is all well and good. But that was over a decade ago...

Then please give me a reason based on logic that Steele could possibly ever be a good DC

i don't know if he'll be a good DC. i also didn't know that Saban and Miles would win national championships. We could've hired the biggest name out there and he could've come here and failed. Nobody knows...but its not in my nature to freak the hell out like a 12 year old that just heard One Direction broke up.

Saban promoted Smart after the 2007 season to CO-DC along with Steele to keep Smart on his roster.

Dabo is a little troll.

Finished last in defense at Baylor cause Brick was his DC. (And a lot of people here wanted to promote Brick)

I would have nervous breakdowns dealing with Dabo on a daily basis.

Kevin Greene was sauced out of his mind and went on a roid rage.

Saban brought him back after the WVU "debacle". (So Saban must like the work he does)

All in all, I'm going to wait to give my opinion on the hire. Either this hire will get Miles fired or it won't. I'm pretty sure Miles knew his hire was an important one for him.

If it wasn't a demotion for STeele, why did he leave the first chance he got to be DC for Clemson? It certainly wasn't pay...

A little troll that now has the number one defense since shite canning Steele.

so, no defense for this one. A guy with nervous breakdown issues in the SEC west. Seems smart.

I'll give you that one.

As a recruiter. He didn't let him fricking call his defense. Hell, the only reason he got a job on the staff outside of admin is because another left.

Miles also knows you have to throw for more than 50 yds a game to win, but that didn't affect his decision making either. He is stubborn.

We get it...Mr. Calm/Cool/Collected...are you sure you are an LSU fan?
You seem ambivalent about everything related to LSU football.

You cant be happy about this hire...can you?
