I don't think he should go. Improve that draft stock and double your money bare minimum.

Wouldn't happen. No way, no how.

Maybe not double, but look at Stevenson. Who would've thought he'd be a 2nd round pick? It wouldn't be unreasonable for to think Laird could follow that path

Unfortunately the MLB draft isn't like NBA or NFL. Seniors get screwed with their signing bonuses.

Unfortuantely this is the only year he makes the most money, it's in his best interests

Best of luck ML in MLB! I've enjoyed watching you play. Thanks for being a Tiger!

He would have to have a monster year to improve his stock. Having a good year and then the additional leverage of the option to return to LSU is the best it's going to get negotiation wise. It seems these kids just come and go so quick. I get attached to them and hate to see them move on but certainly he is an exceptional athlete.

I think he could as well, but it's not going to translate into more money. He could be picked in the 4th round next year and would likely get around the same money or even less money than he will this year. Seniors get screwed in the MLB draft. It's kind of shitty.

But, to improve his stock I think he would have to fill out some and add a bit more pop to his bat. He has the speed to play CF, but lacks the arm or power to play a corner outfield position at the next level. If he could add a bit more power to put the ball in the alleys he could move up a bit. Other than that, he isn't going to get faster and his arm isn't going to dramatically improve.

Really surprised. Expected him to graduate before moving on in life. Congrats and good luck to him.

Ross said if chinea gets drafted he will probably be gone as well. Nobody wants to be the only senior on the roster.

I could be wrong but wasn't Ibarra drafted late and decided to return senior year and then not drafted at all..

I still feel bad for him but glad
LSU found a spot for him

I don't see Laird really being able to improve his stock as we already know what he is.

Or play first when you are a catcher and know you are not in the plans to be the catcher in your senior year.
Why stay? He was recruited as a catcher, but rotated and then replaced.
Same story next year, but would probably DH because jucos coming in to reload.
I'm not against players coming in, but I don't blame them for leaving in their Jr year either.
