Lady Tigers on the ropes against the 5-14 ETSU team that plays in Atlantic Sun conference. ETSU hit 10 3s. Apparently they have decided not to guard anyone outside the 3 point line.

I know that we have some starters hurt, but the ladies are just not very good. We should've won a NC back during the Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles years, but we choked in 5 straight final fours.

I was at the game and can tell you LSU could not buy a basket under the goal, I dont know what the stats will say but I would bet they are not pretty.

With regards to the number of 3's given up ETSU hit 3 in the first two or three minutes, all of the by a freshman, Cara Bowling.

Just glad LSU pulled out the win, I woulda never heard the end of it if they didn't.

Our ex hall of fame coach recruited all the Sr's. He couldn't win a NC with a pat team coming back. I know that LB sometimes doesn't show up for games she is in or shows when its too late.

What became of her in the 2nd half? They said on the radio that she didn't play much, if at all, after her early flurry...

She got a little sloppy with the ball and turned it over a few times, the coach set her down after that.

Uhm..................clearly you have not been following this team this season. The team was on a 10 game winning streak then lost a close road game at Florida. The next game they played Tennessee IN KNOXVILLE. They lost the backup point guard (who's also the starting 2-guard) two minutes into the game. They lost the starting point guard to a season ending ACL tear 1 second before halftime. At the half the score was tied 26-26. The very next game they had to adjust to having NO POINT GUARDS and tried to play Barrett at the point. The result.....................? 27 turnovers. Last night they let Lutley run the point starting in the second half. The result.........? She had 16 pts 5 reb 3 ast and 2 stl. Clearly, we know who should be running the point at this stage of the season. This is a good team who's lost their point guards. They're really going to have to come together to overcome that. But, they ARE a good team. Without those injuries they'd more than likely be 17-3 or 16-4 right now, as opposed to 14-6.

I agree with your assessment and the injuries hurt us on offense and transition, but the big problem over the last 3 games is we simply have not bothered to guard the outside shooters. Arkansas killed us with 3 pointer after 3 pointer after 3 pointer and we never adjusted. Last night ETSU hit 10 3 pointers and again we never made any adjustments to take away the wide open 3s. I don't understand that. Another problem I see is inconsistency. Barrett may give you 20 points and 10 rebounds one night and then 2 points and 1 rebound the next. Same with Jones. I have also never seen a team just allow opponents to simply take the ball out of hands more than this team. We get a rebound and the other player just snatches the ball away. We stand and look around for someone to pass to and the defender just reaches out and takes the ball out of our hand. Also, the interior passing is atrocious. We seem to think we can pass the ball into the lane with 3 defenders between the passer and the post player and not get the ball stolen. It happens over and over and over.

lsursb I agree with all of what you said and I have limited knowledge of this years team, I really havent followed them that closely. That said the thing that stood out the most to me is the 27 of 74 shooting and I am gonna guess that 15-20 of those missed shots were inside of 5 feet, some were point blank with no one covering them. It was painful to watch.

I partially agree with both of you guy's assessment. I will say this though......

Guarding those perimeter shooters is the responsibility of the LSU guards primarily. If you noticed, when we had Webb and Barrett in there on Sunday and last night, we couldn't guard those shooters because we weren't fast enough to get to them. That wasn't happening when Hughes and Kenney were in there.

Barrett.............yep, what can you say. She is inconsistent as hell. But, playing out of position for the last two games has also affected her.

Jones used to be inconsistent. But, if you look at her play over the past two weeks or so, she's actually been the most productive player on the team. Perhaps she's turned the corner.

The shooting..............
Well, I will admit last night was horrible. But, that's not been the case over the season. Right now, LSU is the second best shooting team in the SEC right at about 45%. Last night was more of an aberration than the norm.

I think you guys are spot on when talking about the passing in general. But again, I think when a team loses both point guards, the offense in general and ball security primarily, are gonna suffer. I honestly believe that Nikki should put Lutley in at point guard and Webb at the 2-guard next game...........and let Kenney come off the bench.

Don't want it to sound like I am bashing Nikki. She was my #1 choice and I think she will be great. I think she is going to need a few years to get some players in to match her style of play. I think we all know the "get on the Van" years took a terrible toll on the program and I think there were some recruiting mistakes made. I think she will build the program back in a few years.
