Kramer Robertson can be a better hitter...LSU Baseball proven history!
Posted by tadelatt on 6/24/15 at 9:17 am358
LSU Baseball and CPM have done some incredible things that seem to go unnoticed because of the lack of CWS Titles.
For example, improving hitters that are almost dead in the water and making them into highly sought after MLB draft picks.
Ryan Schimpf (Undrafted out of High School)
Freshmen - 31 Starts, BA 0.262, 107 AB, 4 HR, 11 RBI
Soph - 65 Starts, BA 0.320, 250 AB, 12 HR, 54 RBI
Junior - 72 Starts, BA 0.336, 262 AB, 22 HR, 70 RBI
5th Round MLB Draft pick
Leon Landry (36th Round pick out of High School)
Freshmen - 57 Starts, BA 0.271, 214 AB, 5 HR, 26 RBI, 38 R, 10 2B
Soph - 42 Starts, BA 0.300, 170 AB, 12 HR, 41 RBI, 38 R, 10 2B
Junior - 63 Starts, BA 0.338, 240 AB, 55 R, 12 2B, 6 HR, 45 RBI, 6 3B
3rd Round MLB Draft Pick
Austin Nola (38th round pick out of HS)
- 4 Year Starter
- His numbers went from a BA of 0.240 to as high as 0.320 and stayed around 0.300 as he progressed.
- Was also drafted 31st round in 2011 but stayed at school
- In 2012, he became a 5th Round draft pick!
Mason Katz (Undrafted out of High School)
Freshmen - 8 Starts, 44 AB, 0.318 BA
Soph - 50 Starts, 0.337 BA, 190 AB, 4 HR, 53 RBI, 40 R
Junior - 64 Starts, 0.320 BA, 241 AB, 13 HR, 52 RBI, 65 R
4th Round MLB Draft Pick
Tyler Moore (Undrafted out of high school)
Freshmen - 31 Starts, 0.261 BA, 4 HR, 27 RBI, 14 R
Soph - 20 Starts, 0.281 BA, 0 HR, 12 RBI, 12 R (Numbers dropped and fans forgot about him)
Junior - 43 Starts, 0.301 BA, 6 HR, 37 RBI, 30 R
6th Round MLB Draft Pick, just one year after putting up terrible numbers
Jared Foster (Undrafted out of high school)
2012 - First year, had 27 Starts and hit 0.218, not great numbers but he was a Freshmen
2013 - In 15 starts and 64 ABs, he made the most of his time and hit 0.359
2014 - 13 Starts, 61 ABs, and then he hit 0.118 THAT IS NOT A TYPO!
2015 - Senior season, last chance, he fights his way into the becoming the starting 2B and hits 0.278 in 54 Starts and 212 ABs. Ends up hitting 10 HRs
5th Round MLB Draft Pick
Chris Chinea (Undrafted out of high school)
- Many thought he would transfer because of the amount of Catchers on the roster
- Never impressed much and only hit 0.250 in 2014. Most people, myself included, had him watching the season from the bench in 2015
- Ends up leading the team in Hits, HRs, and RBIs, and also hits 0.344 - Shocked EVERYONE!
17th Round MLB Draft pick
Andrew Stevenson (Undrafted out of high school)
Freshmen - Lowest BA on the entire team - 0.193 in 33 Starts and 119 ABs, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 22 R, 5 SB
Soph - LEADS team in BA - 0.335, 59 Starts, 203 ABs, 32 RBI, 41 R, 9 SB
Junior - BA 0.348, 24 RBI, 53 R, 13 2B, 26 SB
Easily one of the best CF's in the Nation for three years and went from being written off after a terrible Freshmen season where his bat just did not do much of anything into a
2nd Round MLB Draft Pick
My point?
Kramer Robertson is still a Tiger and could find his swing. CPM is doing something right for these kids as he has helped some of them become high MLB draft picks when it was not looking too good.
All it takes is one season to turn things around and K-Rob is due!

Chinea, Foster, Landry, and even Katz were all in CPM's doghouse at one point.
Stevenson too.

Tiger fans want NC's and anything less is unacceptable no matter what facts you present. some fans that is.
the tough thing about winning in Omaha is that a team MUST have outstanding pitching. that is very, very hard to have. the NC's are teams with two Lange's and two Poche's plus two or three overpowering relievers.
I think Manieri has done an outstanding job overall. he has won one NC. he's not skip bertman and he's not the Turner guy at SC or the Vandy coach Corbin. but he is one of the nations best coaches.
imo, LSU either has issues with attracting ENOUGH top flight pitching talent or is deficient in developing what we do attract. the MLB draft is a problem as is the scollie limit. Vandy circumvents the scollie limit to a degree with their grants to lower income students (athletes or not) but we need to improve (or get lucky) on the quality of our pitching. we are real good but not good enough to win it all.
imo, we were fortunate to make Omaha this year. we had just enough.

Kramer has every opportunity in the world this year to earn a job somewhere, hopefully his offense will catch up to his defense and he should not have anything to worry about

Kramer Robertson is 5'6" 160 on a good day. The others aren't. I also fail to see what he has to do with those players.

Um, on a good day these guys are...
Ryan Schimpf 5'9", 181 LBs - 34 HR and 135 RBI in 3 seasons
Mason Katz 5'9" 185 LBs - 33 HR, 180 RBI, 52 2B in 4 Seasons

are you seriously trying to compare krob to those two players?

He's laughing at you using size as knock on a player's ability.

mike fontenot was also national freshman of the year. kramer has no pop whatsoever in his bat. it's unusual for a guy of his stature to have pop like fontenot had in college. kramer doesn't hit well for average either and his defense isn't good enough to justify having a hole in the lineup like nola was his freshman season.
