So you guys could tell me if he's another hack or not.

LINK

quote:

Why are the rumors that Jimbo Fisher is who LSU wants?? Winning in ACC is nothing like SEC West. Am I missing something??

quote:

Jimbo Fisher checks all the boxes for the LSU job. He spent six years combined in Baton Rouge under Nick Saban and Les Miles. He's worked at a strong power conference school where there was pressure to win. He won a national championship and also made last year's playoff bracket. He's an offensive minded coach, who often clashed with Les Miles' offensive conservatism in their two years together. He's a good character person. And he won't divide the fan base. He will be expensive and that might ultimate stop the move. He has a $5 million buyout. There is also the lingering question of why would he want to come to the SEC West when it's much easier to win an ACC conference title. Coaches love challenges and Fisher has always had his eye on LSU. He's been in Tallahassee nine years and as we know, 10 is about the limit. He won't have the opportunity next year if he passes.

quote:

is miles def gone?

quote:

Yes and it will happen soon after Saturday's game. Maybe Sunday but probably Monday. Stay low or you will be hit by assorted flying rumors. There is no turning back now and damage is being done to recruiting as I type these letters. The top QB recruit in the nation, Feleipe Franks, has decommitted but the good news is that Jimbo Fisher is recruiting him, too. It could end up package deal. Miles was hoping to get through one more year and there was talk of him possibly retiring after next season. But the team has been abysmal the last three weeks. it was going to cost a lot of money to cut him loose next year and the boosters decided to bite the solid gold bullet and pull the trigger now, before the coaching carousel starts.

quote:

What current head coach would you set as the over/under for the caliber of LSU's next guy? ...& would you take the over?

quote:

I'll go with the overs and Jimbo Fisher. the problem is that LSU had better not miss with him like Texas did with Saban last season or the Tiger boosters will find themselves fighting over scraps with all the other teams looking for coaches. it's a long drop to the next available coach. There aren't many gettable big names like Jimbo Fisher and he's really not that gettable. LSU is going to have to dig him out with a lot of dough. He's got a $5 million buyout and he's going to have an annual salary bigger than that. Plus, the staff is going to be costly. There's no reason to get cheap at this point. LSU boosters are hoping to get a yes from him soon. The wild card is a possible NFL coach and the most likely name is Chip Kelly, but LSU might be a second choice to USC. Kelly apparently is having the same issues of control that made Saban leave the NFL after two seasons. Whoever it is, I expect it all to happen fast.

quote:

is there a scenario where Les keeps his job but relinquishes full control of the offense to a new OC?

quote:

No chance of that happening. Les is done. Cam Cameron has been treated for cancer and his contract is up. Les would be a lame duck and what offensive coordinator worth his weight would want to be in that position? it's time for Les to go. As Steve Spurrier told us, when a coach gets to be around 10 years in the same place, it's time to go. The two sides get tired of each other. It's time.

Kleinpeter tells it like is. I don't always agree with him, but I wouldn't call him a hack

They also asked him about Herman and he shot that down pretty hard.

quote:

Nope, he's done a really nice job at Houston but he's not ready for LSU and the fans would revolt for the school firing a coach with skins on the wall for a guy with one year as a head coach. Herman doesn't have many southern connections even though he's four hours away from Baton Rouge. There are going to be a number of jobs that he fits much better than LSU, like South Carolina and Missouri, for instance. There's going to be a lot of openings when the open jobs are filled and a lot of moving around. But I see LSU as Jimbo or bust.

I think he missed it on Tom Herman. At the end of the day, Jimbo/Sexton punks JA and we get Herman.

Didn't Jimbo just get an extension/raise? If this happens, it wold suck for JA but it's FSU's AD that would be getting "punked".

The local media has been consistent in saying that Miles is 100% gone and that there is no chance of him salvaging his job.

pretty sure he did. It's hard to imagine any scenario where Les is back at this point. However, missing on Jimbo means you throw the bank at Chip Kelly IMO

If Miles is gone then LSU must have its new coach signed up.

I totally forgot about Cam's cancer. That's an interesting factor.

I know I'm in the minority but I would prefer Chip over Jimbo. But I think both would be homerun hires.

I'm in the serious minority of wanting Herman over all of them...

I think that might be the majority. I, too, want Herman.

But I would certainly not bitch about Jimbo. Jimbo is a very safe hire and would definitely not "tank" the program like a Hallman.

Herman, however, is the next Urban Meyer IMO. He's going to be a great big program head coach.

offensive. Was Ohio State's OC last year. They have dropped off offensively without him. He's a high risk, high upside kind of hire.

Offensive guru. OSU has had a lot of problems this year without him. He would never have let the debacle against MSU last week happen.

I don't want a single recruit to be the big factor, but Jimbo is super appealing for the fact that he could probably reel Franks back in.

Or he could coach up Danny Etling. Don't forget about him.

Kelly was just given full control over the entire Eagles football operations this year. He's not even in play.
