Kevin Steele has never had this much talent on D to work with as a DC

i think a lot of people get lost in stats, and not look at everything envolved. Nick Saban couldn't have had any better numbers at Baylor. Clemson might have had some talented players but no where near the talent we have in every position. I think our D will be better than most think!

Steele did a credible job at Clemson. everyone focuses on one damn game where they got blown out.

he has a lot of talent on this team but he is also playing better competition. I also think he has better asst. coaches here at LSU.

I think our D will be good and we will transist to a main 3-4. I think the spread defense of Chavis is gone but our D against the spread will weaken also.

The one game was against a spread D that put up 500+ yards on Chavis' 2011 D

You're not missing much.

Life on the Diversion is pretty sweet though.

Steele won't be asked to run the defense by himself. Solid gameplans and playcalling with elite players should yield good results.

Considering we are returning 7 starters from last years defense, which was #1 in the SEC, If we arent a top SEC D next year then there is a problem.

What people don't realize is that during Kevin Steele 's time at Clemson his defensive yards per play rankings were just as good as lsu and even better one year. Most posters don't realize that total defensive is heavily skewed by offensive TOP and Lsu always ranks high in TOP. Even with our crap offense of 2014 our defense was rarely on the field.

ETA: down votes for stating facts?

While we were #1 in total defense we were 4th in the sec in opponents yards per play. Yards per play and points per play are far better measurement of a defenses ranking because they aren't skewed by anything.

Coach Steele will be just as good or better than Chavis... LSU is a special place to coach; sooo much talent.

Three of those four were taken in the 2011 NFL Draft, prior to Steele's worst season as Clemson's DC. The year prior, in 2010, Clemson ranked ahead of LSU in both points per play and yards per play.

We're going to need it because we seem to have a QB problem.

Exactly. In fact, when Steele was at Clemson his defenses were ranked ahead of lsu in yards per play every year but one.
