Kevin Faulk Compares Fournette to Cecil Collins

Article in today's Times Picayune.
"He's a taller version of Cecil Collins. He has similar speed, power and balance"
I would consider Faulk a credible source on the topic.
A setback to the ranters who disregarded the immense talent of Cecil Collins.

Fournette is also a step faster
Collins had great talent but he wasn't as talented as Fournette. Fournette is being compared to Adrian Peterson. Collins played in the league. And it was a pretty forgettable career.

I think his legal issues had a lot to do with that.

Well, he really didn't play in the NFL long enough (eight games) for his career to be memorable. For eight total games is wasn't the worst career either.

The New Orleans Saints already have designated a rookie as their starting tailback. Will it be much longer before the Dolphins do the same? Amid an extremely sloppy 26-14 loss Friday night at Pro Player Stadium, Cecil Collins continued to show that Karim Abdul-Jabbar's days with the Dolphins' first-team offense may be fleeting. After an unimpressive outing by Abdul-Jabbar (three carries, 8 yards) and the first-team offense, Collins spurted for 93 yards and one touchdown on 17 attempts in the final three quarters.

Who knows, if not for serious off-the-field issues, Adrian Peterson may have been compared to Cecil Collins.
Cecil was a special running back. Fournette has been described as a once a decade RB. Cecil could have well been the RB for his decade. He did very well every where he played. Just didn't play anywhere for very long.

I've never seen a running back who hit the hole like Cecil. It's like he could get to full speed in 3 to 5 yards. Hell watching this video, sometimes it was one step after he got the ball and decided where to go - play at 2:09 mark of this video.

Leonard may have outrun Cecil in the 40 but I don't believe he had the short-yard acceleration Cecil had. Hell, Cecil looks more like a combination of Fournette and Guice than he does a shorter LF.

I love me some college era Cecil Collins, but he was not as good as Fournette. He ran hard, but he did not bring hammer like Fournette does (and that is not a knock on Collins -- It's just hard for him to compete with Fournette in this category because Fournette outweighs him by 30 pounds).
Collins was also not as fast as Fournette. LF has true break-away speed while Collins simply had good speed.
So, they both did things well, but LF is faster and outweighed him by 30 pounds. I'll take #7.

Ok but Kevin Faulk disagrees with you. I know his credentials. What are yours?

LF has everything that Cecil had, added with a working functuoning brain

He was a bruiser with a quick first step and a fairly quick first cut.
But watching that video just reminds me - if I could clone 1 LSU player, it would be Alan Faneca - and just play him at every position on the line - forever. On a different level doesn't begin to describe it.

Well, it is still officially the off-season for LSU. So LSU fans think that LF has never been tackled (can't remember it anyway) and former LSU running backs never broke a tackle.
I just watched the links of the Cecil videos I posted above and LF's highlights on youtube. If not for Cecil's mental condition I would damn sure take either one of them on my football team.
