For those of you old enough to remember this game, #14 LSU was up 24-14 early in the 4th Quarter. They then proceeded to squander that lead, with Kentucky kicking a field goal with 11 seconds remaining to go up 30-27. A Kentucky player made a major mistake by calling their time-out with 15 seconds left on the clock. In reality UK should called time-out with only a couple of seconds remaining and kicked the field goal with only a second or so remaining, effectively eliminating LSUs chance to win the game.

So, a couple of questions:
1. Why does Saban get a pass for allowing his defense to squander a 4th qurater lead to an average UK team (they finished 7-5)?
2. How many people were disappointed that LSU won that game, even though they really should have lost?

I would hope everyone here is old enough to know this game.

Why does Saban get a pass?

If you can't tell the difference between Nick Saban, and Les Miles then you can't be helped.

Sarcasm at it's finest, since there appears to be quite a few posters on this site that act like 12 year olds.

Because LSU fans simply enjoyed winning back in those days, and now many of them are spoiled brats.

fans shouldnt be disappointed because that's one of greatest endings to a CFB game of all time.

Saban was very mad about that game and showed no happiness in the win. He knew they got lucky

Here's a more interesting question.

Why do stuff like this continue with Saban?

Examples:

OU 2003
LSU2 2007
Ole Miss 2008
UK 2008
UF (title game) 2008
UGA 2008
Texas 2009

I was worried about what could happen the next week.

My worst fears came alive.

Because that was before LSU had reached greatness within our lifetime. We were still in progression at the time and were just happy for whatever W we could mark on the schedule. Expectations were a lot different then.

Or maybe it was because Toonces made his debut that year, so anger was focused elsewhere at the time.

Differences?

Styles? Yes

Results? There are none.

So in HINDSIGHT, everything turned out fine, right? Up to that point, Saban had gone 8-4, 10-3, 8-4 ... AT THAT TIME, why weren't fans screaming about Saban's poor defense against a mediocre Kentucky team?

because we were coming off our first SEC title in 13 years and were nationally ranked. since then we've won 2 more SEC titles and 2 national titles.

do you not understand how expectations change?

Was it 2001 we needed a miracle Mike Clayton TD catch with like 17 seconds left to beat UK?

So expectations weren't very high that year? You just stated we were coming off an SEC title and were Nationally ranked. Seems expectations were pretty high to me. Besides, who actually sets those expectations?

They were, there has never been an LSU coach in history that LSU fans didn't bitch about.

The current idiocy is worse than ever before and it is embarrassing to be associated with the pathetic jealous ex-lover syndrome but I'm afraid it's a permanent condition.

Because a lot of people gave Saban a pass for losing Damien James and Matt Mauck mid season (yes, it was his fault Mauck got injured). Don't forget that Toefield was injured for a majority of 2002 as well.

But I remember Saban said after the game he was concerned about letting them back in the 4th quarter, and that this game was an example of why we need to play for a full 60 minutes. Would be nice if Miles had that attitude.

Its quite simple. Prior to Saban, I think its fair to say that LSU was a average program. When Saban left, this program was one of the best in the nation.

Les Miles acquires one of the top program in the country that Saban built and it quite obvious to almost everyone that the program is dropping back down.

Look at what Saban has built at Bama....I'll be darn a top program. Got it!?! I doubt it.
