I didn't realize he's at Houston now. Is he still under close surveillance by NCAA or is a viable candidate for bigger jobs?

LSU actually beat Houston this year. Plus Sampson cannot be trusted.

Would have been a great hire 20 years ago.

I think he's a tremendous coach and still is. I think the issue is, is he "too shady"?

Sure, why not. I'm sure the issues he had at both OU and IU were just "mistakes".

Good coach, but he's an NCAA infraction waiting to happen

Yes, when he was at OU. He's over 60. Not that that's too old too coach, but it's not who we need to build the program.

I was just thinking that the one thing that can bring this program back is crippling sanctions.

Yea bad idea. Just curious as to where things stood with him or if he was viewed so negatively still .

Great feedback. I really enjoy the thoughtful exchanges that take place here. Although, I'm not sure hiring Dales bagman who had never even been a successful coach really supports any of the comments in the thread, but good insight nonetheless. Obviously Alleva isn't opposed to hiring someone with a little bit of a questionable background there and at least Sampson has been a damn good coach.

Would be john wooden compared to JJ

Really? The best you can do is to name one of the few coaches CJJ has beat this year? No, no, no and just no!

Wouldn't touch that guy. We are at a tipping point and if he goes bad who knows how low this thing will get.

Let's go and find a proven coach from the North East- either Big 10, Big East or ACC. Offer them $1M more per year than they are making then full of incentives by reaching playoffs ($250K), Final Four ($250K) and winning the Natty ($500K) = $1M extra for winning it all.

My picks for LSU head coach:

1. Jay Wright from Villanova- $2.5M now. Offer $3.5M plus above incentives

2. Mark Few from Gonzaga- $1.4M now. Offer $2.5M plus above incentives

3. Ben Jacobsen Northern Iowa- $780,000 now. Offer $1.5M plus above incentives

These guys are winners and great coaches. What has Gonzaga done the last few years- Awesome!! And how about Northern Iowa? They win with little to no talent, and killed LSU many years ago. They make the tourney often

What can you say about Jay Wright. First class guy, great coach and proven winner. Will also offer him 10 Canali Suits per year- He would come for sure!

If I were any of these guys I would not touch the shite show that LSU and for that matter most of the SEC has become. I doubt the decomposed skeletal remains of John Wooden or the ghost of Jim Valvano would take the job

I was thinking this time we try something different and hire someone that doesn't suck.
