Don't we usually throw off on Wednesday in the tournament? Maybe not completely out of the weekend rotation but I don't remember us starting one of the top 2 recently.

Pretty sure Poche started the opener last year.

Correct. Poche shut down Vandy in Gm 1 last year on Wed. Then Nola on Thur beat Arky.

Bouman beat Ark in Gm 3.

Cartwright threw 4 good innings and 3 others including McCune beat FL in the final.

I see where you are coming from, but I just don't see 5 days rest as being too short of a turnaround even if he is used to 7 days rest. If it worked out the way CPM wanted it to, Poche would have had 7+ days off before his next start. I will give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt since they talk with Poche and watch his bullpen sessions.

Did Chicken ban you from the Box as well? Left field bleachers haven't been turn't up this season.

I think most do. bbap is right. I like arguing.

I agree in general. I just think two things should factor in: Poche's recent struggles and how unimportant this tournament is

Now he might start Sunday. Had Poche started today, he would still have 7+ days rest even if you wanted to throw him vs. the 4 seed.

Generally, I have no problem with that.

I said this earlier, but I'm happy PM didn't put Poche out after the first. Good call. I was also good with the Godfrey call even though it didn't work out. It was a good spot for him. And how we used guys the rest of the way was great. We are set up really well at this point. I'm happy with that.

how unimportant the tournament is to us the fans, not to the players and coaches themselves...see big difference

You are taking this reasonable concept of "The SEC Tournament isn't important" to unreasonable levels. Poche was going to pitch. We know that. Lange is going to pitch. We know that. The only question was when. Mainieri chose to throw Poche yesterday (which gave him extra rest for next week). That's a reasonable decision that I don't think added ANY risk to Poche for next week.

Now he might start Sunday.

That doesn't really have anything to do with starting yesterday though...which was your point. If he pitches a lot on Sunday...and we start him on short rest next week, I'll absolutely agree that it was not worth it.

You are making the case that starting him today wouldn't have caused a rest problem. But, that doesn't mean that starting him a day early would have caused him a rest problem. Those are two different points.

In CPM's post-game interview with SEC Network, he gave us a little more insight into how he thinks. He said one of the reasons he pitched Godfrey early was to get him back out there quickly due to his struggles. I imagine this thinking also played into him pitching Poche first game.

You know that guy every group of friends has, that talks too much and tries to sound like he knows everything, but should shut up and just watch the game?

That's you

Forgot about Poche, but I would have considered Glenn 3 in 2013. I actually thought he and McCune split some starts on the weekends but maybe that was just because of the way the series fell or someone else missing a start.

If I remember right, Glenn moved into the opening spot late in the season because we had a bunch of Thursday-Saturday series and they wanted to keep Nola on his normal schedule.

He likes to poke at PM. He's not alone.

Baseball is the best sport for second-guessing, and a lot of us enjoy debating. I agree with some of his opinions and disagree with others. He goes off the rails every now and then, but he knows baseball and loves LSU.

People bitch about Ell just as much as he bitches about everything else so there are in the same boat when it comes to bitching.
