Does he make mistakes? Yes. God yes he does.

Is he stubborn and frustrating? Yes, sometimes.

Is he a great coach? Yes.

Will he go down as an LSU legend? If he stays another 5-10 years, I think so.

Let's play a game, I'm going to list some coaches' records in a 8 year span. Since some say Les inherited a great program, I skipped to a coach's 3rd or 4th season to give them a chance to build up their program for comparison.

Here is coach Miles:

05- 11-2
06- 11-2
07- 12-2 (12-0-2 for comparison's sake)
08- 8-5
09- 9-4
10- 11-2
11- 13-1
12- 11-2--PREDICTED

COACH A

10-1
9-1-1
11-0
10-1
6-4
7-4
6-4
9-1-1

COACH B

11-1
12-1
10-1-1
10-2
11-1
11-1
11-2
12-0

COACH C

9-2
5-5
11-0
10-1
8-2
4-5-1
10-1
9-2

COACH D

11-0
10-1
9-2
10-1
9-1-1
11-0
8-2-1
8-3

Now, without looking it up, how would you order these coaches based on this 8 year span?

Here's mine:

Coach B
Coach D
Miles
Coach A
Coach C

After a few orders, I will reveal who is who.

I love Les Miles

Do I get angry and frustrated with some decisions? Sure do. But that is life.

He is great for LSU and fits US as a fanbase perfectly in the big picture

Here's my list:
B
Miles
D
C
A

only difference is D. I didn't care for the slide near the end of that timeframe

and Im very interested to know who each coach is

I like what u did here!!!!! I say coach B, Coach Miles, then coach D!!!!!!! Miles is definitely in the top 3-5 in coach n in the nation. I personally think he's top 2-3 in the nation, his record is proof his recruiting is proof and the amount of athletes he graduates is proof......CLM is a grt coach n people need to relax he will win 1-2 more NC before he retirss

I'll wait for about 5 orders and then reveal unless some jackass is busy googling right now to come in here and spout off the names.

Yeah, but remember it doesn't necessarily mean that was the end of their tenure.

Coach A----Darrell Royal

Coach B----Bobby Bowden

Coach C----Frank Broyles

Coach D----Bear Bryant

I'm not saying Miles has done enough or even close to deserve being mentioned with those guys, but I'm saying that people getting pissed over 11-2 seasons are totally fricking retarded.

20 years from now people will be talking about Saban and he will be a legend. You can't compare yourself to that. Just take solace in the fact that we are 4-3 versus that legend, and 2 of those teams (08 and 09) are some of the worst LSU teams since '99 and '00.

I guess 2011 bucked that "2 loss Les" trend didn't it?

Hell, at LSU saban was worth 3 losses every year but 1.

Damn those are some serious names to be listed with

damn.

Great thread, certainly should open some folks eyes

I've loved the man since 2005. I don't think he has ever or will ever get the credit for keeping shite together with all the issues the state encountered

He deserves more credit than he gets. I'm not on his nuts because we should be better and he gets in the way, but people who would cheer if he left are mental midgets.

I'm just saying that people are letting 1 team ( bama), who is an extreme exception to the rule cloud their judgment.

Imagine if we hired Petrino. That fricker would've quit on us as soon as he got the chance in 05.

Which makes a 3-4 loss season back then all that much worse.

Nope. He got destroyed on 1/9. 13-1 is a great record. If Miles was EVER going to coach this team to an undefeated season, last year was it...IMO. Now that Saban has Bama rolling and we are in the west...we would have to get by him in order to win the SEC. Saban has dramatically ended his teams' problem with complacency after winning a MNC. They will be this good from here on out until he retires. With Florida rising, Georgia and USCe great...Miles will need to have No.1 recruiting classes every year and develop and coach players better in order to give LSU a chance at an undefeated season.

Give LSU Bama's schedule and I take Miles over Saban every time.

So we should go undefeated every year or its a disappointment? How many seasons has Saban gone undefeated at Bama? One in five with a chance to make it 2 in 6 this year. That's 33% and he is the greatest college coach ever. Get some fricking perspective.

You realize we evenly compete with Saban's bama team every year, right? Not to mention that this year we are down roughly 15-20 key players and still nearly beat them. I'm not making excuses at all. I'm just pointing out that this "we can never compete with bama" argument is completely ridiculous.
