Just had dinner with him at a confrence here at LSU. He gave the keynote speech, and sat with us for dinner.

He is the most humble, nice, down to earth guy. If you ever get a chance to meet him, jump on it.

If Bob Brodhead hadn't rail-roaded Stovall out in the early 80's, LSU wouldn't have experienced the decline of the Archer-Dinardo-Hallman years.

Stovall was recruiting great and had a lot of talent on the team when he left.

Stovall may have been a loyal Tiger, but he was no great coach...his last year at LSU, we failed to win one SEC game...that's why he was fired! His players quit and that's a fact.

Arnsparger came in and won the SEC, with the same players.

Jerry was good at raising funds, but he was not equipped to head an SEC Program, good recruiter or not!!

Saw him play in the early 60's. Tremendous athlete who deserves to be ranked up there with Cannon and Casanova . He got hosed in the Heisman race.

He worked at LNB when I worked there back in the day. Fantastic person and recruiter. Not so much a fantastic coach. After we lost to Ole Miss that year, tiger fans were driving back to Baton Rouge with *U-Haul Stovall* signs in their cars. I felt bad because he really is a wonderful person.

You're right about Stovall. I met him when I was a freshman at LSU and he was the coach. He was very nice and even told me to come by his office any time. Of course I never did.

His number should be retired in Tiger Stadium. A tremendous player (2nd in Heisman) and good person who loves LSU.

Incorrect. Brodhead brought in Bill Arnsparger, one of the best coaches LSU has ever had -- at least until Saban and then Miles got to LSU. The Archer-Dinardo-Hallman fiasco is on the LSU BOS and Joe Dean, not Brodhead, who resigned about a month before Arnsparger did so following the 1986 Tulane football game.

Coach Stovall is one of the most humble, honest and compassionate people I have ever met. He is 100 percent LSU, and loves the Tigers! What a great motivational speaker who definitely has his life's priorities in order!

Some people are just nice...without being phony and having to even try. He is just naturally that way. A very good person. Always has been. My parents knew him when he was at West Monroe High School. Very humble even back then.

Remember Stovall coaching the Tigers wearing a coat and tie on a hot humid day game in Tiger Stadium and sweating thru the jacket

+1 The BOS apparently let some of the players influence them into promoting Mike Archer over 3 very qualified other candidates who interviewed after Arsnparger left: Sam Rutigliano, Mike Shanahan, and one Steve Spurrier. If one of the latter two had been hired, who knows what would have transpired in the 90's?
