Despite his small ball tempo run the floor philosphy, big men develop and thrive in his system. Also our gaurd play has gotten better every year and with TQ a hybrid 2/3 his system next year should do wonders.

But just curious. Why are pur bigs the ones benefitting in this sytem more than our backcourt?

Geniunely curious. Stoked to have CJJ run this show!!

got any proof? Mickey and Martin didn't develop any more than they would have without a coach.

We've had really skilled bigs and the ones that thrive are slashers at the position. You have to remember that there have been flops as well.

If you can't see how they got better from their freshman year to their sophmore, I don't think you should be commenting on basketball.

To answer the question, a big man's greatest attribute is usually his size. When these guys get to D1 ball, they no longer have a tremendous size advantage against their competition. I believe the answer as to why they get better is simple: conditioning. It takes these guys a while to adjust their body to the physicality of the college game. Once they are up to speed, they can use their size to contribute to the team.

The bigs we've had have been significantly more talented than the guards thus far, which I think probably has a lot to do with it.

I think we have seen plenty of guards thrive in his system.

Quarterman made a huge jump learning Jones' style. Patterson came in and played 100x better than anyone expected this past year. Hornsby had a really solid year and looks to improve. Our two best players were forwards so I guess it looks like forwards have thrived more but I think it's been all around.

Plus if other forwards aren't used to running up and down a court it can give our guys an advantage.

You don't watch basketball if you didn't watch Martin from year one to year 2

Agreed. TJ was actually better at developing big men during his tenure; see Chris Johnson, Hamilton and JOB3.
Quarterman and Patterson have both shown marked improvement under Jones. However the Big guys, Malone and ER haven't shown much improvement at all.

O'Bryant was under JJ for 2 yrs, TJ for 1yr. You're also forgetting Tuba.

I feel like you are judging "benefiting from the system" by whether or not someone went to the NBA. This is college basketball, not everyone is an NBA player.

For CJJ's first two seasons we had two undersized guards that played most of our minutes in the backcourt. They played as well as they could but both were limited physically. The rest of the backcourt roster those first two year's was just not very good at all.

But if you look at our guards this past season, TQ, Hornsby, Patterson and Gray, besides Gray the other three played above expectations and "benefited from the system." Are they NBA players yet? No. But that doesn't mean they aren't benefiting from the system.

Throw in Blakeney and Sampson next year. Next year may be the best backcourt LSU has ever seen.
