Prior to the combine, Mickey was considered a solid second-round pick after electing to leave LSU after his sophomore season.

With the Tigers, he averaged 15.4 points and 9.9 rebounds, along with being named first-team all-SEC as well as being named to the league’s all-Defensive Team.

But a strong showing at the combine has him now projected to go near the end of the first round or early in the second.

That means there’s a good chance he’ll be among the players available when the Celtics pick at No. 28, and possibly No. 33 as well.

Mickey said he went into the combine hoping to show very specific skills that he believes will transfer to the next level.

“My defense,” he said, “I hope that I showed I could play defense, 4s (power forwards), 5s (centers), even keep some guards in front of me.”

In the first Day of 5-on-5 drills at the combine, Mickey had 17 points but even more important was his interior defense (eight rebounds, eight blocked shots) which stood out head and shoulders above the rest of the players.

Yea, it's looking like he made the right decision

Wish him nothing but the best. He's going to be part of the movement of putting players in the pros year after year

Yea I've seen a lot of mock drafts with Mickey going round 1 now... A lot to the Celtics who will be looking for a PF this draft.

A lot of us make snap judgements on these guys and it's always nice to be wrong when it benefits the player. Hope he gets picked up by a contender and turns into a solid NBA player.

I'm the first of many on here that need to eat some crow regarding Mickey. Honestly didn't think he would get drafted, but I'm very happy that he is proving me wrong. Good luck to him.

this, i hope he does well, but he has alot to work on regarding ball skills and shooting, however with NBA coaches much of that can be corrected

Good for Mickey. I think the injury effecting his play at the end of the year colored a lot of fans (me included) opinion that he made a mistake leaving early.

Glad to be wrong on this one.

I hope he goes as high as possible, but I don't believe anything pre-draft. Agents leak info, teams leak info, non of it means shite till the draft.

The NBA season is an extremely long grind. I always thought Mickey's main problem was that he was just not strong enough to bang with the big boys without getting worn down and injury prone.

We saw that at the end of both his seasons here, especially the last one. I hope he gets a chance to rest, learn and build his body up before anyone expects great things from him.

I hear this and I recall him having a very solid 15 foot shot this past season and even though improvement is always important his ball skills were never an obvious problem.

Not sure how any of you guys thought he would be playing overseas. He will be a solid bench player for a very long time.

Sporting News has a Mock Draft with no LSU Tigers in the First Round. It was on my MSN Homepage.
