Johnny Jones...

In a way, I feel bad for Coach Jones. He didn't come into the best of situations after Trent Johnson. He recruits his arse off and gets some decent talent into the program. Lands the #1 consensus best player in the nation. And now, it seems to have fallen to pieces. I know LSU was his dream job so this has to be a huge disappointment for him. I honestly feel he wanted to put LSU Basketball back on the map and it now looks like his days are numbered.

Wait you think he landed Simmons? Which also landed Blakeny?

I agree with what you are saying but is his days really numbered? I really dont think so . With this clown F. King Alexander at the helm , he seems to slam the door on anything possible of upgrading our athletic programs. I know that he is over the entire LSU system and Academics should come first but a lot of money comes from athletics and he seems to not care.

It is not enough to just recruit outstanding talent.
A coach must also know how to teach, motivate and come up with the right game strategy. In these areas, JJ is woefully lacking.

Wat? I said I feel bad for the guy. He's an LSU guy & this shite show blew up in his face after some decent recruiting.

We were much more of a joke under Trent Johnson. Maybe you don't remember us having back to back years of going 2-14 and 3-13 in the SEC. Back when we had a walk on tuba player as our starting center. (Though to be fair he's probably more serviceable than Darcy). If we can't bring in a top coach then JJ will get 1 more year.

Sounds like a coaching problem to me.

He's overmatched at this level. He is a mediocre (at best) head coach who is a better recruiting assistant coach. He does not know strategy, which you can't really fault him because he played for and coached for Dale Brown. But he seems incapable of motivating his players, and there's no excuse for that because that's a coach's job and that was something at which Brown was good.

... will be glad when this season is over ... or is it over?... if i expected more than one and done in the NIT, i would be dreaming ... the hype and disappointment seems awfully similar to the football team ... except that Miles is somewhat respected by the national media ... whereas Jones can only be viewed with contempt ...

I agree with this. I'm pretty sure if Johnny's honest with himself he knows this as well. He's an LSU guy and I was hoping it would work out. It didn't.

He's a good guy and he tried hard (and did some good things), but he's just not a very good coach.

Should be fired for missing tournament as soon as we lose in SECT, completely unacceptable this season

If Ben Simmon's uncle went to Hofstra, we would be wondering why Hofstra had the nation's best player. JJ didn't recruit him, he came here because of his uncle.

Preach brother, but you left out Elbert I've been Johnny is not all that as a recruiter but some people just look at stars but how about recruiting players that actually fit your style or position of need

He's being paid $1.5 million to do a piss poor coaching job
Yeah, can't imagine how tough it must be for him

Sometimes it's not all about the money. I know it's easy for us to think that it is but that doesn't measure success with coaches. They want to win championships.
