This becomes more frusterating with every win. If we win 2 of those 3 bad losses we are 100% on the bubble, and probably in. We would be 10-5 in SEC play with a wins over Alabama, Missouri, and Arkansas.

I know you cover Tiger Basketball closely and I really appreciate your insight. If I recall, UNT fans were warning us that this was CJJ's M.O. They started the season off very slow but showed progression as it moved forward. That tendency is haunting us this season. But, a run in the SEC Tourney would be awesome!

I agree. This team is tough. Take the 2 games where we got spanked: boise and Florida, first, I'd say both games would be different if played now. Boise had a lot of talent and played the game of their lives. We were overmatched vs Florida but still played them tight early. We got spanked but got to see a great example of the jjones full court press in the second half.

I wouldn't read into this too much IMO. A first year coach has a lot to get use to. I wouldn't expect a start to SEC play like this next year with players that fit his scheme better. I think he was fighting to see how he could use the current team to make his vision come to life.

He is bringing in guys who will be a better fit. The guys that we have will be better fits now after having a year and an offseason to work on what Coach Jones expects. I think the slow start was probably just not knowing what to expect out of the players and coaches in a totally new situation.

the recruiting has probably been most impressive. Bubba Hotep's continued defense of Trent's recruiting and his fricking awful staff was always puzzling. Dude would constantly say staff's are overrated and it was ok for Trent to have a 95 year old assistant who did jack shite

Has spoken...

From my perspective, this club is leaps and bounds beyond my expectations for this season. They really do not quit. When Arky made their run last night and tied the game, I said "oh shite". But they were really clutch in the final 3 minutes, in particular, rebounding and all with 4 fouls on JOB III. This club does not quit.

I think a head coaches (all sports) biggest job is picking good assistant coaches. You are the CEO of the team and you cannot teach everyone everything. What you can do is put people in place that will teach the players what they need to know. Love the staff Jones has put together.

I definitely didnt feel bad when Trent left. By the end of last season i was very indifferent about keeping him or firing him. Once he actually left, It was like a breath of fresh air. I actually bought that schtik that it would take 4 years to build a program. I think Johnny is showing, with the right assistants and good recruiting techniques, it can take only two years at a place like LSU for basketball. Attrition under Trent was almost as bad under Brady. Never understood recruiting players like Ludwig. Sure he is a good kid, but if you notice, he isnt playing any lately.

absolutely ATROCIOUS free throw shooting.

This needs to change ASAP.

Make each player shoot 1000 FTs a day in the offseason or something. All about routine and muscle memory boys. Call in Ray Allen and Jeff Hornacek.

I think Hickey is the biggest problem at the line, i expect freshmen and big guys like JOB to struggle at the line.

He has had 2 concussions during practice. He is out for rest of the season. I can promise you he would be playing before Courtney if he was available.

Odo looks tall in the photos I've seen. Aren't Mickey and Martin 6'8"? Isnt there a 7 footer coming in too? Whoa.

Hickey to distribute? Maybe, just maybe we get JOB back?

B. Final record will be slightly above preseason expectations. About what should be expected for the talent level. Defense, especially in transition, has been an issue all season. Recruiting is obviously very good.

We'll get a better idea of what quality coach he is next year when fans expect to make the tournament.

He looks like he has a very good frame for jumping for rebounds and blocks. He led JUCO in rebounds last season. He is a shot blocker as well.

Mickey is probably 6'8" and will play PF while Martin is more like 6'7" and will most likely play a SF (3).

Darcy Malone is a 7'0" Australian who has been playing on the Australian U17 national team as a backup center. He should be a good addition but may not contribute very much next season. He is raw and needs to be developed.

I think Hickey and JOB stay. Still a lot to gain for both of them.

you know recruiting was awful when you felt like you had to give Ludwig a scholarship to reel in a guy like derendecker

He got JOB, other than that, he got nothing in 4 years. Not good. I woul give him credit for Hickey, but he fell into our laps, got extremely lucky to get him.

I fell for the Derenbecker hype in a BIG way. His leaving was the beginning of the end for Trent in my eyes.

tigerfan102 - don't be a snot. This is a fan message board!! It's for fans to offer commentary and opinions. If the only people that could post their opinions were actual basketball coaches, there would be nothing here.

This year I worry about that due to depth; however, I've loved the intensity late in games. Once we build a little depth I honestly think we will be a top 3 team in the SEC next year. JJ gets an A+. He's gone far beyond expectations I had given the situation hexane into and the performances on the floor.
