SEC basketball standings past two seasons (2014-2015 & 2015-2016)

SEC Combined record past two seasons

1. Kentucky- 31-5
2. Texas A&M- 24-12
3 LSU-22-14 (LSU wins tie breaker 2-1 against Arkansas past two years)
4. Arkansas-22-14
5. Georgia- 21-15
6. Ole Miss-21-15
7. Vanderbilt-20-16
8. Florida-17-19
9. South Carolina- 17-19
10-Alabama- 16-20
11. Mississippi State- 13-23
12. Tennessee-13-23
13. Auburn-9-27
14. Missouri-6-30

PSA-To all of the LSU fans who are quick to call for someones job. Johnny Jones is the third lowest paid coach but has LSU with the third best SEC record the past two seasons. He has done a great job of strategically recruiting and strategically bringing in assistant coaches who have strong ties to top talent. Yes this season was unfortunate and we lost some non conference games due to our two starters being out and our lack of experience. If we win two of those games we are having a different discussion right now. Blakeney took a half of a season to get adjusted to the speed of the game which is normal. I know all of you couch coaches think that just because he is a Mcdonalds all American he is supposed to score 30 ppg from day one but that's not how this thing works. (i.e Skal Labissiere was project number 1 on some sites preseason and is just catching up to speed but I guess Calipari is a bad coach.)

We have a solid recruiting class coming in of much needed program players and Louisiana has a lot of talent in the upcoming classes and Shaq son is a beast also. Is Johnny the best X and O's coach no but overall when you factor his ability to run a program, recruit and his ability to use the LSU basketball alum as resources, he is a good coach. Ben Simmons was a great talent but his impact was overrated because he has no jump shot, is a poor freethrow shooter and is not a player the will take over games. He will be the number one pick in the draft based on productions yes but upside mostly.

Next season we will be a better overall team. We finally have two true points guards for the first time in a while. People forget Jalyn Patterson started his freshman year and just struggled to gain confidence and chemistry this year due to early injury. Brandon Sampson is a beast and will average double figures. He is WAY more talented than Hornsby. Jarrell Martin even had issues his freshman year jumping from Class B basketball to the SEC but if you think this kid isn't a hell of a player and won't improve then you are crazy. Most of the fans are always doom and gloom like these guys won't get better and will just stay the same. Below is the depth chart for next year.

Starters
PG-Skylar Mays or Jalyn Patterson
Wing-Antonio Blakeney (First team SEC)(Pure shooter and smooth game)
Wing- Brandon Sampson- Pure shooter and smooth game) or Tim Quarterman
PF- Craig Victor
C- Elbert Robinson- Another year of conditioning will do wonders. I see him averaging 12ppg and 6rbg

This team will have more chemistry and will have an elite go to scorer (AB) who will be unstoppable. AB will get only get stronger and will work on his ball handling all off season.

Go on and tell me how I am an idiot and these players won't get better next season and that Johnny Jones should get fired. I just know someone has to be a voice of reason and give you the facts!

Before I read any of this, let me start by saying that JJ could have an even better record after 2 seasons with the talent he had if he knew how to coach basketball.

Is the head coach going to be better somehow? That would take a miracle.

The question is? Do any of these folks mentioned in the rant know how to play defense since that is not coached at LSU!

Ho Hum!

No he hasn't. He also hasn't done a terrible job as some assert. If we want to actually take basketball seriously going forward, a change is necessary. If we can't even win 20 games and get into the tournament with this roster, I have to think we've reached our ceiling.

I upvoted you because I like your optimism and you havent freaked out like the rest of they mouth breathing retards.

I will say however, Sampson being WAY more talented (subjective) doesnt mean shite until he proves he can do it on the floor. Hornsby is 41.5% from 3 this year and Sampson has been piss poor beyond the arc. I'm sorry, but I need my 2 guard to knock down open shots, which he hasnt come close to doing. In fact, I am shocked when one of his shots go in. So lets not bash the proven and pump sunshine up the non-provens arse.

I agree JJ gets more flack than he deserves, but he needs help developing half court sets and someone needs to help his arse understand the purpose of a zone scheme on both ends

I will bet you a million dollars Elbert Robinson won't average 12 pts and 6 rebs

He can't get on the floor over Darcy fricking Malone right now

Face it. He is an awful coach.

He doesn't know how to substitute
He doesn't coach defense
He doesn't hold players accountable for poor shot selection
He doesnt know how to call timeouts
He has no offensive game plan other than running
He doesn't motivate
His players can't deal with adversity
