"I have more confidence in the OL this year. They're bigger and faster, and I think that will help. And I can let myself make mistakes this time," Jefferson said.

He didn't have a lot of trouble doing this last year. I wonder if this "confidence" he speaks of is shared by the OL? Hope so...

So dropping back 12-15 yrd on pass plays or only looking at one reciever were not mistakes.

I'm hoping JJ has improved on his progressions.

I have no idea.
If he hasnt picked it up since spring, then prob not very good numbers.
Im expecting (team wise) a 09 wash performance sat.

Think about it, if he had no confidence in the OL last year (and i don't blame him) it seems that he would want to get as far away from them as possible. Step up in the pocket? Are you kidding me? What pocket?

The kid was doing his best to get the ball to his receivers while not getting mauled by the DL, and he ate the ball rather than taking a chance of throwing picks. Those are the mistakes he was afraid of making.

Can you give the kid a break before the season even starts?

The guy has started but one full season - and won 9 games.

Jesus, some of you people need to get some perspective.

I hope JJ tears that UNC defense to shreds.

That's maybe what you do in pop warner, not major college football.

While the interior OL struggled mightily in run blocking, it wasn't attrocious in pass blocking. Our pass protection struggles were on the edge and were amplified by Jefferson's inability to step into the pocket.

That was wrong, but I see it metaphorically.

I'm not sure I get you, never saw the movie, so I don't have any context for the quote.

From what I did gather, one guy seemed to be a bit selfish and not playing as a part of a team. I don't see that as a problem with LSU. The other guy seemed to not be showing enough leadership. I think you can't expect a whole lot of leadership from a true soph who was in his first season of starting. I look for JJ to be more of a leader now that he's a junior with a full season of starts behind him.

Agreed. Ciron took a lot of grief, and as it looked during the season, we now know he was basically playing on one leg. However, a lot of sacks from his side occurred when he kept pushing the DE upfield and JJ retreated right into them as he continued to fade further and further back.
