An icon what cannot be replaced or copied. So many broadcasters today are perfect and boring. Sincere "fan of the team" broadcasting is always best to listen too and way more entertaining. Jim was an old school broadcaster you can't find today. He made LSU sports come alive visually when listening.

I grew up "watching" LSU baseball & football through this man's eyes by listening to him on the radio. Jim, thanks for the countless memories throughout the years. Your distinct voice will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Met Hawthorne several years ago before his book came out. Visited with him for several hours one day. Nice gent. Will be missed. Did a good job in spite of all the crap he has caught from some on Tiger Rant. I hope LSU can find someone who loves LSU as much as Mr. Hawthorne did. Of course I liked John Ferguson a lot, too.
