He tweeted:

Another name you can cross off the list for LSU is Rick Stansbury. He has been working behind the scenes, but source told me, “No shot.”

Stansbury would've been the definition of a "meh" hire, but at least he would've recruited well and had us winning more than half our SEC games.

In 14 years at Mississippi St, which does not have the history or potential of LSU, he made the NCAA tourny 6 times (5 NITs), had winning SEC records 11 times, and did very well in the SEC tourny.

Per Wiki:

quote:

Taking over the helm as the Bulldogs head coach in 1998, Stansbury led his team to post-season tournament play eleven times in fourteen seasons (six NCAA and five NIT tournaments), with five consecutive post-season tournament appearances, the first MSU basketball coach in history to accomplish this feat. His 2001–02 MSU team compiled the most wins in a single season in school history (27). Also achieved the highest National Ranking in school history 2003–04, #2 in the country (finished 26-4). Stansbury also owns MSU's record for consecutive 20-win seasons with four from 2001 to 2005 and again from 2006 to 2010.[4]

Stansbury won more SEC Championships in the last 10 years than any other SEC program except Kentucky 12. Mississippi State 8. (Florida 6) Western Conference Champion: 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010. SEC Tournament Champion: 2002, 2009. Overall SEC Champion: 2004. Under the leadership of Stansbury, MSU's teams were always a threat in the SEC Tournament, reaching the finals of the tournament four times, winning twice. His SEC Tournament record is 16-12.

I don't hate the hire of Stansbury but the program seems to be on life support, they need to tell this hire. Stansbury won't exactly send the message we're serious about competing.

Stansbury went 15-16 at Western Kentucky this year.

Why 15-16 at Western Kentucky would qualify someone to be the head coach at LSU escapes me.

he's also quite possible the biggest cheater in SECBB history. So there's that.

I am in no way endorsing stansbury for the job

I really don't care if he cheats or not, Rick Pitanio was banging chicks in the restaurant bathroom and had he assistants providing hookers to recruits, and I'd hire him in a heartbeat. You kjnow why, because he wins at an incredible level, taking 3 separate schools to the final four and winning 2 national titles. plus id love to see calapari and him at sec media days

God dammit. Here we go again. No one has a fricking clue and Alleva could rehire Johnny Jones after firing him and I wouldnt be totally shocked.

Well, people justified the Johnny Jones hire, so don't expect much.

Say what you want about Stans but he does know how to sign players. Has a top 10 ranked class his first year at WKU. Saved Kennedy's arse at A&M and got him a SEC Championship.

He's never even been accused of cheating. Whoever said he's a cheater made it up. And during his tenure at Miss St of all places he was the 3rd best coach in the SEC. The only programs that were better were Kentucky and Florida. Miss State had not won the SEC since 1963 until he took over and won the league title and 2 SEC tourneyments.

He's a college basketball coach. No accusations necessary. He's a cheater.
