no...the speed of the league is so great now that successful QB's are those that can quickly read the D and pull the trigger.

You don't think that can be improved with film study i.e. work ethic?

certainly those are key elements to success, but reading the defense at the NFL level is as much art as science, and many QB's never get it, no matter how dedicated they are.

Even if he never learned to read defenses that's not the reason he isn't in the league. His work ethic is keeping him down, he'd still be in Oakland if he was actually trying but just couldn't read a defense. His arm would have kept him in the league for years if he was exerting any effort.
