The thread on who was the best freshman DB reminded me of a discussion I had last week. Between Jamarcus and Mett, who you taking to lead your team?

Both are large QBs with cannons on their shoulder, JR a little more mobile and larger body of work while Mett only had one great year.

Who you taking?

I like Mett a lot but I gotta give the edge to JR, who I believe also had a substantial statistical advantage if you compare 2006 to 2013.

JR in his prime with all those receivers and Cam as a coordinator would have been a sight to see. JR.

This.

JR had a bigger arm (which is nuts), was more mobile, was stronger, and had a better QBR.

JR with Cam Cameron would have been a Heisman contender.

Can't disagree with any of this.

JR. Some are so blinded by his pro career.

Fisher was no slouch so I don't think Cam makes a sig diff. I take JR by a pretty good margin

Imo. With Cam. LSU wins the title in '06.

Mett would have needed another year to make this question a compelling one.

Same. Both had gigantic arms, great height and toughness. Both suffered from poor decision making at times. Neither had the "it" factor that causes QBs to excel in the biggest moments.

Not sure about this. JR was clutch at Bama in '05. As far as clutch. I would give that to JR.

With JR at the helm I always felt like I was watching the football version of gorilla ball. Never out of a game no matter what the score.

Not even a comparison wow! JR was the best QB in the country is junior year. I love Mett but there were 3-4 better just in the conference his senior year.

Russell was great at being clutch making up for his own mistakes. He had some games that could have been a lot easier without some major wtf moments. The 2006 Tennessee game is the biggest one.

But still Jamarcus > Met

What are your thoughts on the '06 AU game? JR or Miles?

I think Mett was a better 3rd down QB and that is what usually separates QBs in the NFL, but as someone posted before JR was better in college. If Mett had one more year with the type of talent that will be across the oline protecting him he may have progressed and been considered better. Watching both of them was entertaining though, it's fun having offense that can be multiple.

If Miles lets Jimbo call his offense, we win a NC in 2006. That team had more talent than the 2007 team.

College-wise it is JR, his inconsistency was his downfall. As was said, he had plenty WTF moments. He wasn't mobil, what people fail to mention was that he was just so big and strong, he was not going to be brought down easily by college defenses. There are many plays where the first guy hit him and he didn't go down. Mett showed some of this, but not to the extent JR's missed tackles.

The Auburn game tells you all you need to know about what was wrong with LSU and it wasn't the QB.

If Cam wasn't his best friend, we would have more of those issues now. I believe their friendship is the only thing that makes me think Miles will give up the reins to Cameron, he trusts him. However, if he starts getting a lot of press, Miles will mess it up, that is a recurring theme.

Not that it matters, but what an offense LSU would have this coming year had Beckem Hill, Landry, and Mett had stayed.
