This. As long as Miles is the head coach at LSU, we will never be a "pretty" football team. He lacks the attention to detail that Saban and Meyer stress so heavily.

It is what it is.

We allow 3rd and longs so often, yet we rarely manage to convert a 3rd and short when we need it.

While it was a struggle converting 3rd downs offensively last year, people forget our offense led the nation in 3rd down efficiency in 2013 especially when it came to 3rd & long.

quote:

LSU converted just 39.9 percent of its third downs (71-for-178) last season, 69th in the NCAA, after leading the nation with a 57.1-percent conversion rate in 2013.

quote:

Now, it’s reasonable to point out that nobody was better than LSU in third-down offense in 2013, when future NFL rookie starters Zach Mettenberger, Jeremy Hill, Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry manned the skill positions.

Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron had to replace all of those players last season, and he did it mostly with freshmen and sophomores. It was reasonable to expect a drop-off, although LSU’s fall from a 57.1-percent conversion rate in 2013 to 39.9 last season (69th in the FBS) was a considerable tumble.

“Anytime you do something that’s that extraordinary, you’d like to duplicate it,” Cameron said. “But to think realistically that you’re going to replace basically your entire skill group, and then most of those guys were Day 1 starters in the NFL, it’s … is it impossible? I don’t know. Is it unlikely? Probably.”

G'Day, Mate! How are things down under? I was in Sydney in May, and again for the July 4th weekend. I may go back in September as well. I always stay at the Sydney Harbour Marriott when I'm there. Circular Quay and Darling Harbour are my favorites, not to mention the Hunter Valley wine tour!

It's good to know we have Tiger fans in my favorite city!

Yeah that's a great point. I never really looked at it in that regard however I wasn't so much referring to our overall 3rd down completions, more so completing them when it was most needed. Especially in the bama game I believe we had 3 dropped passes on 3rd down which definitely would have changed the result of the game.

Good Saturday morning!

When you go to America in September, where are you going? If you're headed to BR for a game, be prepared to sweat--a lot! I always do!

Is Miles still associated with it?

I've been to all of those cities. L.A. and San Fran are like second homes to me, as I've been there dozens of times on business. Weather in both will be pleasant in September. You'll love Las Vegas! Great city, lots to do, and very easy to get around. It'll still be around 100F (38C) in September, so wear cool clothing!

Safe travels!

No worries. Have a cold one for me at Fortune of War in the Rocks. It's my favorite Harbour pub!

We were 30th in the nation in third down defense, and 69th on offense. We actually outperformed on third given our dismal ability.

Another post not founded in any type of reality.

I bet someone blames miles in three or four responses to make the circle complete

Mate, please learn to read before responding. Not once did I refer to us statistically being bad? I clearly referred to us unable to convert in crucial times (like the bama game). I definitely wouldn't say we out performed our ability being 30th and 69th anyway? We should be much higher than that at least on defending 3rd downs. I'm glad you think so highly of our players.

It will help on the defensive side of the ball, perhaps. His departure does not effect the offensive mistakes, and the head coach, who is intimately involved in the offense, is still around.

Mate, you specifically mentioned third down. We were statistically good on third down defense. Then you go all girl with the "one time against Bama".

Not understanding the game must make Games so relaxing

Haha did you not read the post mate? It clearly states we never seem to convert on a third and short when needed. And I referred to the bama line earlier in the comments as someone else got confused. I'm sorry If I don't understand the game quite as good as you, but I'll be sure to make my posts more simple to understand in future for the ones who never made it past the third grade.
