definition of insanity

If you make 4M a year and win 80% of the time, doing anything other than what got you there for a few assholes on a message board is certifiably insane. We have a monster class coming in next year.

A lot of football left to be played.

We tried running out if multiple wr sets. Seriously go rewatch the games. Our fans are idiots.

When they spread them out, Bama still only needed 7 to stop the run. No matter what LSU did, the oline got dominated.

don't call it that, are you crazy? You're going to be subject to much ridicule for wanting one of those 'gimmicky' offenses

Let's just stick with calling whatever we do a 'pro style' offense (even though the west coast offense is a pro style offense). Don't ever say anything in describing our offense that uses words other than 'pro style'.

Tuscaloosa and come out victorious. Either because their typical style of play gives bama fits or because they are willing to put aside pride and step out of their comfort zone.

It's not as easy to say that. Diff head coach means diff assistants, diff players. You can't just say plug coach x in and he would win.

The fans are idiots, but LSU is the only team in the West that hasn't had one 20-yard or more run against Bama or scored more than 17 against them in the last six games (including two overtime games). Come on man... Is our O-line that bad every year?

West coast offense isn't far off from what cam runs.

simple, then don't run. Or line up in the shotgun and try to get a back around the edge or Harris keeper, or short pass to a back, or TE. Plenty of things you can do but you can't just start doing them mid season against your toughest opponent.

the philosophy of lining up in an I formation and estgablishing the run with some deep passes interspersed with it is what needs to change.

The I formation has been unstoppable -- even mano a mano - except against Alabama.

I believe what you really mean is be flexible enough to make changes when the opposing D not only matches you man-to-man, but they are lined up like an arrow applying all the pressure in the center of the line -- making running up the gut almost impossible.

In 2007 Arkansas ran right and left towards the edges all game and destroyed our D.

The few times we ran misdirection, it was a positive play. The only good run Buga had all night was when he bounced to the edge as his secondary move. [He tried earlier in the night after he dealt with 3 or 4 defenders -- too late].

BAMA sold out on the gut and blitzed in obvious passing downs. LSU just continued to play right into that.

west coast doesn't generally line up in the I and just try to stretch the field vertically. But yeah it wouldn't be to big a transistion. Just add more west coast elements. A lot of it is already in our playbook.

The new excuse is that we need better players even though LSU leads the NFL in active players.

not what I am saying at all. I would pretty much ditch the I formation as our base set for a shotgun formation and build our offense around it. I would stop with the whole idea of going 'mano a mano' in favor of taking what the defense gives us. Even against teams that we could just line up in the I and overpower I would take a longer bigger picture view and get our offense ready for the tougher teams that we can't or would struggle going 'mano a mano' against. We would beat those weakier teams anyway but we would just beat them the easier smarter way

Exactly, wouldn't need an overhaul. West coast uses short passes to go around the defense when facing stacked box. Coryell uses deep passes to move the safeties out of the box.

but this year? it isn't going to happen

You're admitting Les is pig-headed and by the way, if you can't trust a QB who has won all of his starts (up to the Bama game) and done exactly what has been asked of him, then you're never going to trust him.....which is one of Les's flaws.

nah

Les trusted Mett in 2013 and we threw all over the place. Harris will get there.

I don't think that's it at all. We were basically going to go in tied at half time and the kicker that hadn't made one from 50 kicked a 55 yard fg. We then come out passing at half and throw an int. Again, LSU needed to still establish the run at some point and give the d some rest. So even if LSU goes pass happy, doesn't negate the fact Bama kept the ball for over 9 minutes to win the game. Up until the int, the game plan was working. You complete that or the te just bats it down, whole new ballgame.

WE are changing. Miles/Cam are changing. Look at a lot of things we are doing this season. It's a learning process for Miles/Cam. Just take a look at the 2nd quarter of the Florida game, the whole S Carolina game, and the second half of the W Kentucky game. We were lined up in the shotgun a good bit, we threw some underneath routes, even attempted passes to the TE's. Used some misdirection on our run plays, think we even had a man in motion a time or two, ran the read option with Harris. Called run plays to Harris. Jet sweep. All things we didn't do much of last season if at all (other than starting to do some of those things agains aTm). OUr offense has been growing and developing at points this season. Just the pace is very slow and I don't know how far with it Cam/Miles will go (probably not very)

I can't accept that MIles/Cam are not intelligent people. Miles is one of the top coaches in the country and at some point he is going to realize what is holding his team back.

"Most of that is already in our playbook as we did it in the S Carolina game"

We really did look like we were running a different offense altogether in that game. And thank goodness it was effective because the D was pretty shaky in that game.

We should abandon that and go to more of a shotgun 3wr set base formation that uses a lot more short passes and QB runs along with the deep passes in order to spread out the defense.

This doesn't matter. If you line up in a 3 WR set, that gives you 6 blockers on the inside matched up on 6 defenders. If you line up in a 2 WR set, that gives you 7 blockers on the inside matched up on 7 defenders.

What makes a successful offense is winning individual matchups. This is true whether you have a 3 wide set or a 2 TE set. We were able to do that all season long and averaged over 300 rushing yards per game and went undefeated. We lost the individual matchups against Alabama and rushed for under 100 yards and lost.

It's that simple. Beat your man.
