happens every. single. year.

Last year we lost to Lamar early in the season, got stomped by Tulane later on, and were shutout by McNeese. You would have thought we were going to be fighting for a tournament bid

But alas, just like these chicken littles find out every year, they were once again reminded that come selection time, dropping a couple of midweek games, regardless of opponent, doesn't really matter down the line. (We still were awarded a national seed).

And before people bring up losing the super regional. 1. we lost to the eventual national champions 2. that's irrelevant to the effect dropping midweek games have to do with eventual seeding

Its college baseball... Most teams are lucky to even have a Sunday guy. If we struggle on early weekdays, so be it. You gotta find out who your conference guys are at this point.

After our shutoput loss to McNeese last year

Host teams? Host teams?! You wanna talk about host teams?! This is the kind of loss that will haunt us when the committee is deciding on the final few regional teams, period, never mind host teams.

Losing to an unranked team like Mcneese is not a small step backwards. Let's just say it will not be good for our ranking. And we didn't just lose, we got shut out 7-0. Incredible how the baseball logic only seems to be applied in one direction. It goes both ways.

not only that but just a few days after beating vandy's allstar pitching staff rather handily in a 3 game series, they go out and shite the bed. Why does mainieri insist on mixing up the lineup every game? the one they played with this weekend was solid. this was the most embarrassing loss of them all, and will come back to haunt us.

Bad team, bad coaching staff. But don't worry, the pumpers will be in here before long time to say how this loss isn't a big deal.

while I feel like you're being way too emotional about this deal, this does remind me of one of the early Manieri years when we finished around .500 in the SEC, typically good enough for us to make a regional, but missed it because of an awful midweek schedule.

Given that the staff has been underwhelming, to put it kindly, it's not a surprise this team is fighting for .500 in conference and to even make a regional.

Well first I said nothing about Kiel not coming in. After Kiel is where the mistake was made IMO and I'm sure their own opinion as well. Straul in the past has come in this situation then responded in the same manner, but has done well for two outs when the pitcher didn't struggle before him. I think Allen being close actually hurts his decision because he wants to give them the benefit of doubt that they might respond positively, they may, but if history is any indication, he would struggle. This N.O. team is very very good offensively, so why put an average pitcher in there after a team has all the momentum, is confident, while at their strength? Being close to these guys can hinder your decision's sometime but I bet he doesn't get many more chances after someone struggles again! We shouldn't have lost to N.O. period. You don't let teams score 10 runs before putting a stop to the momentum. I also didn't see many mound visits? Why not call time, regroup, call the infield in rally the guys for the win or at least TRY to kill momentum in some way. I know I have hind-sight, at the same time I also have the past to look at which Straul hasn't done very well in the past with shutting a teams momentum down, not even close really. Maybe it's a new year he thought he would give him another shot but I bet he doesn't get many more lol. Unless we up by 8 I don't think about putting Straul in. He walks too many guys but just doesn't have stuff to shut many teams down really. DV away
