I guess were just cut from a different cloth bro....as a player I would certainly lose respect for any coach that does that....IMHO

Let's not get ugly.

I guess you're cut from a different cloth then the players too, because they sure seemed to love it. At that point in the season, the team did not appear to be having much fun. That is a big part of the game.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating an accomplishment.

Even your boy Saban has a 24 hour rule for enjoying and celebrating wins and then putting it behind you

this....the poorly coached teams tend to have coaches that dance in the locker room after a road win in the first conference game of the year.

I guess Dabo Sweeney is a terrible coach too.

The things you people come up with to try and find a way to hate on Johnny is unreal.

Oh there's no doubt I'm cut from a different cloth than at least some of these players...and I'm thankful for that.

Loving the coach and laughing while he dances in the locker room doesn't necessarily transfer into wins...let's be honest bud. As a coach respect is hard to gain and easy to lose.

I think it keeps a team loose that, at that time, had been struggling, playing tense, and having little fun. I think the pressure these young players feel hurts us late in games at the free throw line and with dumb mental mistakes. We saw that in this last game when we tried to aim passes in the post resulting in turnovers rather than giving a nice, hard bounce pass away from the body. Turned the ball over not from being lazy, but from trying too hard to avoid mistakes which telegraphed the passes.

I don't think it translates into wins and I don't think it translates into losses.

I've been plenty critical of Jones in-game coaching, but it hurts the discussion IMO when people pick apart the character aspects.

You gain respect of players by treating them with respect, punishing lazy play, and rewarding hard work. He's done that to an extent when he:

1) brought in TQ off the bench
2) benched Sampson for his lack of effort on the defensive end
3) playing the end of the bench in blowout Wins (drove me crazy with Brady)
4) rewarding Henry Shortress's hard work with a scholarship, even if it was mainly a symbolic gesture.

Johnny Jones gets his players to work their asses off away from games. TQ, Epps, Robinson, Martin, Mickey, etc all improved and added new aspects to their game under him.

Like I said, I understand legit criticism, but I don't think that complaint falls anywhere near legit IMO.

And while we've both agreed we're fans of free flowing motion offenses, I'd love to run some set plays to get Simmons involved when he's feeling timid.

Something johnny has GREATLY improved on are set inbounds plays. I think he's a smart enough offensive mind to develop a few great sets allowing Simmons some baseline looks with little defensive help.

He was starting to be assertive against OU after the dunk, and then the BS travel call sent him back into passing mode. You have to players like him completely rolling or they aren't going to take over games.

Lebron, who's obviously a much better player than Simmons at this point, had the same mental issues when he joined the league. Hell, he had the same issues years later, see the NBA finals when he scored 6 points.

Ya know, I haven't posted this story on TD but I figure I'll do it now. It's nothing earth shattering, just an encounter I had with Ricky Blanton.

I used to coach soccer, and Blanton's kid played. After last game of the year he comes up and thanks the coaches and say his kid loved it blah blah blah. I go "Oh man, Ricky...you're a legend." Now, I'm coaching soccer so he's probably taken aback that I know who he is. So I go "Yea, I used to work for the team under Brady." He starts laughing and goes "Oh, John?? Oh man, bet you have some stories. You know, we have a different John now and he's 180 from Brady. His players LOVE him and will run through a wall for him. I've always respected and loved the guy, and it's an honor I can work with him now."

The point of this post is this: I'm a complete stranger to Ricky Blanton. I said nothing about being a season ticket holder, or LOVING LSU basketball...just that I worked 1 year for Brady. Ricky proceeds to go on and on about how much the players and everyone he comes in contact with love him.

So to the guy who says he's "cut from a different cloth"...yea, no shite. You also CLEARLY do not understand the mentality of kids these days, or are in touch in anyway with society.

Wow that's harsh...u formed that opinion of me just cause I made a comment about these players not respecting their coach?

Its not that crazy of a theory ya know? I wasn't attacking jj's character (although I have a former bball team mate who was in the north Texas sports admin rep who tells me he's a douche).

And w regard to Blanton...he seems like a nice guy but I really don't take much stock in some dude that played for dale brown and won a total of 9 games as a coach in 2 years.

The fact is that Brady wasn't a bball mastermind either regardless if his players hated him...

Respect is obviously different than like/dislike. Players hated Brady and like Jones but respect neither.

You sound so awesome. I wish I had inside information about North Texas athletics. Maybe you can tell me the inside story on all those New Orleans Bowls that they went to.

So you have a friend who doesn't like Johnny Jones, and you want to pass it off as certain truth. You should probably be banned again for being an idiot
