Is this why Chief was so adamant about removing the Miles part of contract?

I'm starting to not hate him as much, who would want their employment tied to Les?

Can you educate me on the "Miles part of the contract"?

Having assistants with longer contracts than the head coach seems illogical to me.

Clause that allowed for the termination of the assistant's contract if the head coach is no longer the head coach. It allowed LSU to offer long term contracts to assistant coaches without being on the hook for a buy-out if a new head coach came in and wanted to bring in his own assistants.

Only six months of pay if head coach was dismissed as opposed to being paid entirety of contract.

Not the 100% wording but basically if Miles left LSU, then chavis's contract would be null and void

Assistant coach contracts, with the exception of Wilson I believe, can be terminated if Les loses his job or leaves. Chavis didn't like that.

Thanks everyone for explaining this.

Edit: And yeah, now it kind of makes me wonder about Chavis.

Are you serious? You would want to have to tell the new head coach that he doesn't get to choose his DC?

Chavis is a damn good DC.

And he was smart enough to manage his business, particularly since he's near the end of his career.

Chavis saw what was coming. I think most of us realized that's why he left.

Yeah, Chief knew that we would reach No. 2 in the nation, but was scared of Bama.

Yeh, I think most realized that something wasn't right when Chavis made a lateral move (at best) to A&M. Fairly certain he wasn't sold on Miles being at LSU for too much longer, so he jumped ship while he was still considered a top notch DC and could demand the salary that a top notch DC can get.

Yes. But come on. 16 days ago we were number 2 and in the playoff. He didn't foresee anything.
