Is CPM a little too 'blunt' at times.....?

CPM can be quite blunt at times. I wonder if the players feel CPM buses them or if they're mature enough to realize that sometime the truth hurts.....

quote:

“I just don’t feel as comfortable as I need to feel with (Zardon) being the everyday third baseman,” Mainieri said Monday. “My opinion at this time is I think Conner Hale can do a better job at third base than Danny.”

quote:

“I’m not really sure what we’re going to do with Doug Norman going forward. He’s going to have to pitch a lot better than he’s pitched to continue to be in the rotation.”

I don't see anything wrong with those two statements.

They're not precious little babies. They need to know the truth on how the coach feels and what they need to do to improve.

Why beat around the bush when you can come out and say it? If they ever want to be great you have to be able to accept criticism

Yes. He tries to sound polite and nice when interviewed but he will and has thrown his players under the bus.

You think he's talking to them through the media?

Cpm had several quotes about Bregs last year and how he's not performing up to his expectations.

But I actually like how blunt CPM is.

True, but behind closed doors

I would hope not

I assume he reiterates to the media what he tells the players

Kind of like the exact opposite of Les

I don't mind candid coaches. But I think sometimes, the way he expresses himself about his players openly is overboard.

Take Zardon for example. He never gave him a vote of confidence. I'm not talking about handing him the job, I'm talking about when the kid played great defensively the first few games and then gets pulled. Plays okay again, pulled again. Now he has 1 bad game, follows it up with a great game, and it's panic mode.

But he never did that to Bregman last year when he was going through his struggles. He babies him and it's to the point of being hilarious.

And then there's moving Hale to 3B. You know... the guy who's got 2 errors at 2B on 2 easy plays. I'm not saying he's a bad 2nd baseman or infielder in general. But let's not pretend he's some ++ 3rd baseman who's going to lock it up any better than Danny.

CPM often gets a pass for being a dick, if Les makes similar comments he gets hell for throwing a player under the bus.

Not from me, William. He plays favorites and it pisses me off.

He does it more than other college coaches. A simple "Conner is playing better than Danny right now" would have worked. He could say whatever he had to with Zardon behind closed doors.
