He discussed the lack of depth at LB. Check out this years depth chart and consider next year the LB position, in particular, if Beckwith declares: (I did not include seniors who will be graduating and Beckwith in this chart)

SAM (SLB)
No. 40 Duke Riley 6-0, 227, JR
No. 35 Devin Voorhies 6-1, 216, SO

Mike (MLB)
No. 22 Ronnie Feist 6-1, 234, JR

Will (OLB)
No. 48 Donnie Alexander 6-1, 215, SO
No. 93 Devin Voorhies 6-1, 216, SO

I know we wiffed on Clifton Garrett but this is pretty frickin' serious.

I know we've got some stud HS LBs coming in next year, but it befuddles me why we aren't (or at least not hearing about) after some top JUCO LB's, especially ILB. Hell, even if #52 stays, we're still thin and very light in the britches. Those are the weights of safeties, not SEC LB's!

I don't know what the plans are for Feist next year, but he has been playing fullback recently.

That's because the highly ranked recruits have all been RB, DB and WR. The guys in the trenches have been neglected and it's the reason we're losing to Arkansas and Bama. Last year was a little better. But those highly ranked classes came from those three positions.

I copied & pasted from Dandy Don. He probably can play both positions and the jersey # might be a typo?

Buck stops with Miles...blame Chavis' lack of recruiting effort all day but it is Miles' fault that we have not addressed positions of need. We do, however, continue to offer every DB we can find. 1-1-9 defensive scheme coming next year...

We dealt with "imbalance" between the Offense (Mett, Hill, Beckham, Landry) and Defense (young and inexperienced...and gashed) a couple years ago due to early defections to the NFL draft. Now we will be dealing with misses on big recruits at key positions (see defensive line) coupled with ignoring other positions in recruiting (LB), along with early entrants to the NFL draft. Next year already shakes up to be another "what if" (what if we had a decent D to complement our offense?) year with a strong offense full of playmakers, and a paper thin and inexperienced defense.

As I stated previously, the buck stops with Miles and this "cycle" we are in is completely unacceptable.

That is a disgrace.
No offense to those guys.

I completely agree, but fans can't say Les handed over the d to chavis and he saved his job then turn around and blame Miles for the defense. Can't have it both ways.

LSU doesn't have one linebacker in the NFL from LA. Anyone want to keep saying LA has the best talent in the country and that anyone can win here by simply recruiting Louisiana?

I posted this on the RB last week. This is every LB recruit under the LB guru:

2015: NONE

2014:
Donnie Alexander 6'1" 207
Clifton Garrett 6'2" 222

2013:
Melvin Jones 6'3" 246 (moved to FB)
Duke Riley 6'1" 215

2012:
Kwon Alexander 6'2" 212
Ronnie Feist 6'2" 214
Trey Granier 6'1" 225
Deon Jones 6'2" 200
Lorenzo Phillips 6'1" 200

2011:
Trevon Randle 6'1" 205

2010:
Luke Muncie 6'3" 215
D.J. Welter 6'1" 225

What we have coming in so far under Steele. You can already see the shift in mindset:

2016:
Michael Divinity 6'2" 213
Erick Fowler 6'3" 235
Rahssa Thornton 6'4" 220

More reason to extinguish that position.

I think they ought to move Thompson to lb in the spring, he could help there.

Bottom line:
The recruiting has to be monitored by the manager of the football program (CLM). The defensive coaches have to be selected by that same football manager (CLM).
If we are weak/ thin at LB, it is the fault of the football program manager (CLM) for NOT making sure numbers and top-SEC talent were solidified.

Hope he's a better LB than he is a special teams player.

I disagree with that.

I think the position could be utilized in different ways, but from an offensive strategy standpoint, I don't think it should be extinguished.
