ETA: Yards per play rank on offense as well

# of "dead plays" LSU has run the last four years. Dead plays are 1st or second downs which gained two yards or less.

Thanks

Why is passing yards so important to yall?

It is important to every team because you need balance in your offense unless you're the 95 Nebraska team.

Having a good running game is just as important, but you can't be awful at either of them for optimal results.

I stipulated it's importance. Simply using passing yards as a standalone stat for making any determination is not very useful, and it looks like you would agree.

Looking at any one stat from one specific individual doesn't provide a ton of insight into the coach, except maybe to show a lack of development. We knew 2013 would be the highest of the 3 years, because we had a much better passer. You can't even track QB development very well with that since we've had a different QB each year.

I think team stats are much more useful. Maybe the year over year balance between run and pass plays would be better, especially since the focus is on coaching.

I mean I know why (it will look bad which is the goal), and they are important, but is one pass yard more significant than say one rush yard?

Read my original post. I want total yards AND passing yards.

I suspect we'll see an interesting trend with other teams in the SEC West.

I do, but I think the total passing yards per game average is so bad every year that it really stands out. 2013 is the exception. I'm a run-first guy, but our lack of originality in the passing game (and in general) has done Les in.

Here's the data - I gotta run for a few. I'm sure someone else can graph it out.

Yes margin of victory. This will be the tell all tale of the downfall of Miles. Would love to see this

Down & distance of 3rd & 7+ paired with # of passing attempts of less than 4 yards.
