Of course you can.

Average can be thrown off by outliers.

In 2010 PP had 3 games with over 11 yards per return. In 2011 TM7 had 6 games with more than 11 yards per return.

Ok.

PP had 1 great year of punt return yards. Just like TM7.

PP had the bulk of his yards in 2 games as well.

TM7 was not meh leading up to the end of the season.

In 2010 PP had 14 returns in the last 8 games.
In 2011 TM7 had 16 returns in the last 8 games.

You cant use the PP wasnt punted to excuse.

In fact in each of their 1st 5 games PP had more punt returns.

Tyrann Mathieu returning a punt is hard as hell to bring down because the dude has more juke moves in him than James Brown. He may not have been a regular LSU return guy because they used him late in his career, but he should have been returning punts for them. I know from experience it's really hard to tackle someone like that. The easiest guy to tackle would have been Tre White of course, too indecisive.

and the funny thing is to me is that I don't think Arizona has ever used Mathieu to return punts when imo I think he is more dangerous Peterson.

To be fair he was only at lsu for 2 years and his freshman year we had PP returning punts.

He doesnt have the breakaway speed that PP has. But i agree he is more elusive than PP.

Yes, totally agree Peterson is much faster, but guys like Mathieu who has a lil Barry Sanders in him are hard as hell to bring down because you don't know which way they're gonna cut and you wind up tearing a tendon or straining your groin trying to keep up with them. lol I didn't go through all the pages except the first two, but I was surprised to hardly see Odell Beckham's name in there, I thought they would be a lot of OBJ fanatics up in this thread. lol

I think Edwards Helaire will be an awesome punt returner. If they let him of course and don't use Donte Jackson or somebody.

All the ones you mentioned are certainly in the discussion.

For me, I'd go with Mathieu. I absolutely loved watching him play. He's just uncanny.

It was like there were two #7's out there. He was in one place on the field, next he's intercepting or stripping a ball. I've never seen a guy play like he does.

Agreed. The 2nd return against UGA was a thing of beauty. If he had scored on that play it would be mentioned with some of the most famous plays in lsu history.

Definitely has some wiggle to him.

He has to be of the the smallest defensive players in nfl history to be an all pro. He is without question the most versatile defensive player in lsu history.

Agreed. That's part of what made his play so insane. He plays larger than he is. No hesitation, not intimidated. You can't teach that.

The guy has had two torn ACLs since reaching the pros and he still plays with the same intensity he did when he was at LSU.

Absolutely.

No but you can say after stating the season with 2 huge games teams went for hangtime and he really didn't many returnable punts.

They weren't doing that with TM7.

Did you not see the punt return numbers? Also youre giving way to much credit to college punters. Most are dog shite.

As i said. I just disagree that TM7 was meh before arky and uga. Before either of those games he had 3 games with more than 14 yards per return.

I too would pick PP.

Not reading this thread, but if the consensus isn't Kevin Faulk, you are all idiots.

We've had some good returners over the years, but Tyrann Mathieu completely took a few games over with punt returns (the SEC title game vs Georgia comes to mind). I'll take him

A number of people on here turned on Beckham because he doesn't shut up and sit down when he scores and he "whines" a lot.

A lot of people, however, remain OBJ fans because he's one of the most talented players to ever go through LSU, any sport included.

Returning punts I would say who would you be more scared of? PP7
Or TM7? I'd say TM. There's something there that is very dangerous whenever he gets the ball. It's odd, it's almost like you hold your breath no matter where he is on the field. He is a game changer in the purest form.

He had 2 punt return tds in 3 years. Faulk is my all-time favorite lsu player since i grew up in Lafayette but we have had better punt returners.

Faulks senior year as a punt returner was no where near as productive as PP in 2010 or TM7 in 2011. He averaged 11.5 yards per return. PP and TM7 were both well over 15 yards per return amd both had more tds.
