You don't just run a "some wishbone". If you run wishbone, you have to run it pretty much all the time. That being said it was figured out back in the day and became obsolete. It's honestly not hard to prepare for. With the advancements that multiple angle films bring making reads has become much easier to teach.

Three backs behind a running QB a few times a game might could work. I think it would be better than the Wildcat if run well. Where the ball is going with 4 fast runners might be maddening for a defense a few times a game.

How difficult would it be to install the wishbone with our current offensive sets? LSU seems to be running a more variable offensive scheme than their usual power I formation even though they are still run heavy.

Very difficult. It's a completely different scheme and type of offense. It takes months of timing and teaching to get it down

The Guys(coaches) that love fiddling with this could come up with a few plays that could work great. They could visit with Barry Switzer on which plays might work best. Just showing the wishbone to a defense in a critical situation would be fun to watch. Based on how the defense reacts could open up a huge play.

The wishbone is not simple. Stop thinking it is simple. It's a complex offense that is extremely risky if you have guy that don't know what they are doing running it.

If we ran the wishbone, we wouldn't have our current QB and running backs.

Nor would we have Dural, Dupre' et. al.

I would say Flexbone would be more effective. Put DWill as the B-Back, and have Fournette and Guice as A-Backs.

They could mix and match with a big set (Gordon and Jeter), 1TE-X, etc. But only a couple of plays a game.

He isn't saying that we should become a wishbone team. He is saying it would be fun to see. He is being hypothetical for the most part.

We ran the veer in high school and went wishbone on the goal line only. As another poster said, I'd rather see LSU run the wishbone instead of the wildcat, especially if it kept LF out of the air.

The veer was very effective in high rushing and scoring, but there were also a lot of turnovers. It did account for one of the few times John Curtis was beat in the dome, and I guess that's why they run it now. Of course we had a qb that resembled Harris and was pretty highly recruited, some bad arse running backs that all played in college, and a tough-as-nails coach.

ETA: I like the attack LSU currently has. Harris will burn teams soon with stuff we haven't seen yet.

Could you imagine Ducre playing fullback in a set like that. That would be interesting.

Even if we didn't run it. Id love to see what a defense would do if lsu lined up in a wishbone.

We love BH and what he's gong to do during his career at LSU, but he would not be a good fit for a wishbone QB. The wishbone QB's of yore were all 5'10" to 6'(at the most), 185-200 lbs., and cat quick.

On the other hand, if we had Braxton Miller.....

Ha, ha! Don't post as much. Love our QB and stable of running backs. Would love to see what we could do in the wishbone or veer behind our line. I wish we could put in some wishbone plays just to see how they would do.
