If Latz could have been a relief pitcher.

Had Latz been able to be a relief pitcher, this team would have virtually no weakness. Even without him, I see this team bringing out the rape bats and winning it all!

Our bullpen has been pretty good. If he could have been a starter we would be set up much better. Lange friday, Latz saturday and Poche sunday is a pretty damn good rotation. That still gives you Bain, Person, Newman, Reynolds, Bugg out of the pen.

How much better could this team actually be? We really dont have any true weaknesses, just lapses every once in a while.

I'd say closer is our weakness.

Our weakness is SP imo. It's been the least consistent thing with this team. Lange has been great all year long, but Poche is very up and down, and we still don't have any idea who our 3rd starter should be. The talent is there, but there is always room to get better. And just think, this team could have had Mac Marshal to go with Lange and Latz.

Latz and Lange were supposed to be pretty close in terms of talent. That would be near impossible to stop!

Will be.

We'll likely need great pitching next season.

If Nola had stayed (he would have been worshipped for that - still a great Tiger but could have been legend), Marshall hadn't been a scared quitter, and Latz hadn't gotten hurt, our lineup could be

Nola, Lange, Poche/Marshall/Latz with the two not starting as killer relievers. We would probably have only one loss and that would be the midweek game. Undefeated SEC champs, SECt champs, most likely undefeated through the CWS. Amazing how a couple of breaks could have made that fantasy reality.

This would have been unheard of.

If Nola stays and Marshal doesn't back out, nola and marshal are your 1-2 no questions asked. Marshal is a Kevin Gausman like talent.......from the left side. As good as Lange is, he is the sunday starter in that rotation. That's how good the other two are.

I know that Nola staying would have been historic, but it would have been historically awesome - I said before he declared that if he stayed and we won the CWS he deserved a statue, or to have the pitching mound named after him.

I guess I'm biased towards Lange over Marshal, since the former actually showed up and is now a proven college ace.

I'm with OneMoreTime - can't put Marshal ahead of Lange with the information we have.

But honestly, forget Latz staying healthy or Marshal having balls - if Nola stays our only loss this year would be to Nichols

Marshall has a plus fastball from the left side and a plus breaking ball. If not for his commitment to LSU, he's likely picked before the 10th round.

Lange is good, but Marshall is better.
