And had Newman ready in the pen if Hess got in trouble instead of automatically bringing Newman in for the 9th.

I wasn't I think the idea of Newman being THE closer is fading and they're being looked at as Co-closers.....and rightfully so imo

me too. however, i have wanted him to do just that on more than one occasion in the past. if a pitcher is "one", i don't like him coming out in favor of a cold new guy.

except in mid week games, of course.

And that's our Saturday night guy next year. Heck, maybe even Friday night depending on how Walker develops. Love how Hess pitches angry. When I saw him warming up, I said, yeah, it's on. Homeboy hit 97 last night

I think the bottom of the ninth against Ark may have influenced his decision.

Hess's demeanor in the ninth last night was intimidating. That kid was fired up. CPM was quoted after the game as saying he was so frightened by Hess he was afraid to take him out.

Paul M is the worst coach in america.

Not just college baseball, but at every level.

My sons tee ball coach has better stategy than paul does.

Haha I love the downvotes, the rant is so ridiculously dumb they cant detect complete sarcasm.

Or maybe they realize I am making fun of them.

Either way.

Mainieri asked Hess before the 9th how he was feeling: "He nearly chewed my head off." #LSU

Mainieri on keeping Hess in: "I was a little afraid of him. I'm not sure if I would have taken him out that I'd still be here." #LSU

Hess should have pitched the 9th against Arkansas.

I was glad to see him leave him in to start the 9th to see how he would perform under pressure.

That was a great confidence booster last night for Hess and going forward.

A.Cartwright, interviewed several wks ago on 104.5, said that Hess is "THE most confident pitcher he's ever seen". Emphasis by Cartwright. AC said Hess really believes he can get every batter he faces out". AC also said that Gilbert has the best "stuff"on the staff.

Leaving Hess in proved to be the right call.

Hess under pressure > Newman

Hess looked out of his mind last night and loved every minute of it. I do hope he can keep channeling it efficiently though.

Agree! He threw three pitches to the last batter in 8th and struck him out. When a guy is hot you don't pull him!

The way he was talking to himself on the mound I knew it came down to only one more pitch. Either he was smoking the batter or laying it up for him to hit

He threatened to kill pawl, and pawl is so little. I'd leave him in there too!

I'm glad Newman didn't pitch, game was too tight and my stress level was already through the roof! Newman would have most certainly gave a few tigers heart attacks had he pitched. Geaux Tigers! What a freakin game!!
