The first two drives, LSU had Auburn beat. It was the "here we go again" hang dog look. We fumbled at the 2, but then got the safety. Then, we drove the field and they could not stop us. 9-0. The route was on. At the end of the first quarter, we had 120 yards and they had -5. It was complete domination.

Then, Mett fumbles the ball and gives Auburn good field posion. There was hope. Then, Auburn has one big play down inside the 5 and later scores. 9-7. Game on. The crowd exploded. They were loud, hostile, passionate, beating the walls and their seats. I have never seen a crowd like this for a 1-2 team. They believed.

Trooper Taylor is waving his towel, and with every 3 and out by the defense, they got more pumped up. Every time they left the field and came on the field, they were jumping up and down, cheering, and pumping up the crowd. LSU, on the other hand, trotted off the field and showed no emotion.

Auburn always does this, but this time, it was crazy - at the end of the 4th quarter, they whole team ran from the 50 toward the student section in the end zone. The place was going ballistic. LSU as a team came out on the field and started jumping up and down. Bennie Logan got out in front of the team and started pacing back and forth at almost midfield while Auburn was running around. The place was so loud I could hardly hear anything but the roar. Auburn did not yet have 100 total yards of offense at that point, I don't think.

But, that is when I knew we were going to win. Auburn was happy just being in the game. It was one of the biggest emotional barrages I have ever seen. But, they didn't really believe they could win.

After the 33 yard pass to Spencer Ware, Auburn was finished. They were emotionally spent. That was their chance. The next play was the run to Hilliard up the middle for a first down. Auburn was hanging their head on defense - for the first time since the first quarter. But, then we have the holding penalty and mess up the FG. But, people had already started to leave at that point.

We hold them and win the game. But, the Auburn crowd gives their team a standing ovation as they leave the field - they sing the fight song. They cheer wildly. No one is upset. Tons of Auburn fans told me "good game" as I was leaving the stadium. LSU fans were stunned that it was that close, but no one I talked to was really that upset. We got it. It was an SEC road game at night and it was a buzz saw.

If you weren't there, you would not understand. It was the most hostile crowd LSU willl face all year and that team full of top ten recruiting classes believed for alsomt 3 quarters of that game and gave us every ounce of fight they had.

That is what happened. Sure, we should have won by more. The turnover did us in. Then, we got conservative and made mistakes. But, this game should not be an indicator of how good this LSU team is. They have work to do, but this is the SEC.

Yeah, I knew I would get that from here. But, I thought I'd tell the story for anyone who actually wanted to know what it was like in the stadium and how the crowd affected the game.

Unlike any crowd I have seen in Tiger Stadium. This crowd had an LSU-Florida 2007 feel to it.

Passion matters, big time...it oozes adrenaline. Adrenaline is serious advantage...'dopping', in effect.

When you hold the high expectation and high ranking that LSU does...every single game you walk in with a big bullseye on your jersey. The opposition will be amped with adrenaline. Comes with the territory.

We still won.

Well, it seems like a lot of people do not know. It isn't like this was Tennessee at home in 2010. It was different. It was like being in the lion's den. Auburn tried to save their season last night with everything they had.

Great post.
In 2003 we won our first BCS title and got waxed at home by a mediocre Ron Zook-coached UF team. In 2007 we lost to UK and Arky in dubious fashion.
Yesterday, We ran into an unexpected buzzsaw and got more than we expected.
A good humbling is normally a good thing.
A week of derision might have just the psychological effect they need.
Who knows how they answer the bell ?
It could be the start of a melt down or a bump in the road on the way to a championship.
I'm betting the lesson was learned and these guys come backin two weeks at UF with a new apprach.

Yeah, we have two weeks to get our head on straight before Florida. Towson will be a scrimmage - then we go to Florida and we know what we are getting into.

You also have to remember that we are very young across the board. A lot of these guys thought that Auburn was going to lay down. In the first quarter, they did. Then, we let them back into it.

Emotion is a HUGE thing.

I agree that the crowd was motivated; but that doesn't explain all the personal foul penalties on us. We were sloppy. Hopefully they get re-focused

Intense game and had fun with my son so good time!

Actually none of this is surprising:

In years 04, 06, 08, 12; Auburn was the SEC opener ON THE ROAD, and LSU has been outscored 53-50! That's in 4 games! For an average score of

13.2 - 12.5!

I read it all - good stuff. I've been to Auburn many times to watch LSU end up losing. This is hopefully a gut check for the team. It could be the best of both worlds - see, you can be beat (but we still get a W).

I am sure the good folks who get tickets to the game in Ben-Hill Griffin will be sitting on their fricking hands.

I appreciate your insight- I thought it was a psychological thing for our guys- I know this team can do much better- I don't want to say we're doomed. There's a lot of work to be done.

Actually, it does. We lost our composure. Auburn was in our face, jumping up and down, and doing everything they could to get an edge. We responded poorly. We did not execute.

Yes, we have OLine problems and Mett has to get rid of the ball sooner. The play calling was weird - but, I think that the coaches knew what kind of game it was.

I don't see how people can't see that we were dominating auburn before mett's fumble. If he throws that away, we route them

Exactly.

And if you've never been in that stadium to experience this and are posting here slamming the team, you don't know what the hell you are talking about and are truly an idiot.

This game had the feel of 2006 to me but we gutted it out and made the key plays.

But, Florida will be undefeated. We will have the proper mindset. I think that we thought we were going to roll and when Auburn got back up off the mat and started hitting us, we were on our heels. Their intensity topped ours.

Our defense did well, though. I will give them that. But, their defense played like their life depended on it. They were always where they needed to be and they hit hard. They were motivated.

Florida will be a tough game. The crowd will be wild. But, I can't imagine it being worse than last night. If it is, Tiger Stadium is not anywhere close to the loudest stadium in the SEC.

I have been to several Auburn games. This was the wildest that the crowd has been.
